You need to do the thing where you pay the same amount every month. We're doing it, and it's like $100 a month every time. And our place is bigger than yours. Get into it.
Just a warning about the monthly payment plan thing...I did that in my old apartment and got SCREWED when I moved out. Part of it had to do with when I started the payment plan (probably not until December) and when I moved out (June of the following year). Anyway, it was all fine while I was living there, but when I had to close the account and move in with my roommate, I had to pay the entire remaining balance of the plan, which came to about $400! So just be careful.
I'm sure it isn't that way for everyone, especially if you're going to be in the same apartment for a full year after signing up. I wasn't (but didn't know that at the time) and didn't realize what would happen when I moved.
We turned ours down to 65 also and we just bundle up. I'm always cold, so of course I'm not too happy with it, but it's bearable. We'll see on the next heating bill to see if it did any good.
