Beware of tl;dr lol
♕ name; Sanada Akihiko
♕ age; 18
♕ gender; very male
♕ species; human
♕ background;
Many years prior to the actual events that occur in Persona 3, a group of scientists together with the leader of the Kirijo Group, Kouetsu Kirijo researched about many things that could bring death to all humanity. They studied these strange creatures called Shadows, which feed onto the mind of their victim, leaving the victims senseless, like a zombie. During their research, they discovered that there are twelve special types of Shadows which come out during the full moon. They also found out that these special kinds of Shadows, once brought together would summon the one of the Death Arcana, which would result to the summoning of Nyx, the one powerful enough to end all. Unfortunately, while conducting further research, the Shadows became more powerful than normal, escaped and created havoc. Due to this incident, an explosion occurred, leaving no traces of the research, or the people involved in it. At the same time, this explosion also created the Dark Hour.
The Dark Hour is an hour that takes place between one day and the other. It begins every night, at 12am. The Dark Hour transforms the world into another world entirely. People without the "potential" or those who cannot summon Personas get transmogrified into coffins, and wake up the next day without any clue of the Dark Hour. In the Dark Hour, Shadows come about and lurk, looking for minds to feed on. Once Shadows find their prey, the human still continues to live life the way he/she lived it, but will turn into a "zombie", which people call the "Apathy Syndrome" sickness. At the same time, the place where the research regarding the Fall was conducted turns into a very tall tower called the Tartarus. As mentioned in the previous paragraph, the explosion caused everything to blow up, including the laboratory where the research was conducted. The land was used again by the Kirijo group to build Gekkoukan High, which turns into the Tartarus at night.
These people with potential are called Persona users. They are capable of using manifestations of their inner selves to defeat the Shadows which prowl during the Dark Hour. Three people-Kirijo Mitsuru, Aragaki Shinjiro (who coincidentally happens to be one of Akihiko’s childhood friends) and Akihiko himself-with potential discovered their powers and decided to work together in order to defeat Shadows and prevent them from feeding onto people's minds. They called the group S.E.E.S. (Special Extracurricular Execution Squad).
One full moon night while the three were battling some Shadows, Shinjiro loses control of his Persona, which resulted into a small blood bath. The attack killed a bystander, Ken Amada's mother. Shinjiro leaves S.E.E.S. after this incident, and S.E.E.S. is then left with only two members, Mitsuru and Akihiko.
Anyway, ten years after the explosion (2009), the game starts of with the orphaned main character (Arisato Minato in the manga, but can be named as anything in the game) moving to another school, to another home to start the school year. This home being the dorm, which serves as the S.E.E.S. headquarters as well. Everything seemed okay though, and it seemed like just a normal night. He wasn’t aware that he had entered the Dark Hour at that time, too.
Anyway, the main character meets Yukari, and then meets Mitsuru not too long afterwards. They talk for a little bit without even realizing the time, and all that. A few moments after their conversation, enters Akihiko. He calls Mitsuru, saying that he’s spotted a different kind of Shadow, one that he can’t beat by himself. He says that he’s heading back to the dormitory with the Shadow tailing him, and then hangs up. What happens next is that Yukari is given orders by Mitsuru to evacuate, and all that. Akihiko brings in the Shadow and he and Mitsuru fight it. Unfortunately, Akihiko is injured and the Shadow escapes, tailing Yukari and the main character.
Little did the main character know that he wasn’t the only one with this special ability. The other three students staying at the same dorm as he was had the ability to summon Personas as well-those three being Kijiro Mitsuru, Sanada Akihiko and Takeba Yukari. He then learns about the Dark Hour, a hidden time that exists between one day and the next, wherein Shadows are mostly present.
The story continues, with the main character exploring the Tartarus. Not too long after that, Iori Junpei joins S.E.E.S., and then Akihiko’s wounds heal. He then becomes available as a party member to bring to the Tartarus.
As the story progresses, we see Akihiko visit a certain friend during his free time. This said friend happens to be Aragaki Shinjiro, one of the co-founders of S.E.E.S.. Sure, they catch up on what’s been happening with each other, but Akihiko also makes sure to bring up “S.E.E.S” as a topic for their conversation. He tries to persuade Shinjiro to come back to S.E.E.S., but it always ends up in vain, as Shinjiro says that he will never come back, et cetera.
Eventually, the Chairman (a.k.a. Ikutsuki-san) discovers another person with potential. He brings this person to the dormitory and he stays there for a while. He introduces himself as Amada Ken, which brings some kind of “relevancy ping” to Akihiko. Ken later on joins S.E.E.S., and Akihiko makes his last and final visit to Shinjiro. He brings along the main character with him as well, and the three of them talk. Akihiko tells Shinjiro that Ken has joined S.E.E.S., which leads to Shinjiro rejoining the said group for the reason that he wants to man up and take responsibility for what happened in the past. Coincidentally, Ken overhears this as he was passing by after buying something at one of the stores at Iwatodai station.
When the 4th of October came, it was yet another full moon, and everyone was ready to PAAARTY like there’s no tomorrow. By partying, I mean to battle some Shadows, and all that. While the S.E.E.S. members were waiting for Fuuka’s analysis on the location of the strong Shadow, they notice that there are two people missing in the room: Shinjiro and Ken. Yukari makes Junpei search for the two of them, but Junpei comes back moments later, saying that the two of them are nowhere to be found. However, S.E.E.S. had to take care of that matter later as they have Shadows to attend to. Of course, Akihiko seems to have an idea their whereabouts, but remained quiet and kept it to himself for the time being.
Once they had destroyed the two strong Shadows (Strength and The Wheel of Fortune), they get more worried than ever for Shinjiro and Ken. Akihiko then tells them of where the two of them might be, and they all head to this said place.
Ken and Shinji are found in a deserted alleyway, with Shinji being regretful of what had happened in the past, saying that he deserves to die, et cetera, et cetera. Ken suddenly finds out that killing someone won't do him any good, and he backs away from the very thought of it. An unexpected guest, Takaya, however, suddenly comes in and asks who in S.E.E.S. has the ability to seek the weakness of a certain Shadow. Of course, to protect his comrades, Ken admits that it’s him, and Takaya tries to shoot Ken down. Shinji blocks the assault, only to be shot down and left helpless. Takaya tried to do away with Ken once more, but Shinji suddenly jumps in, taking the bullet for the little guy, which ended his life.
The next day, a funeral ceremony is held at Gekkoukan High for Shinji, but Akihiko is nowhere to be found. After school though, Akihiko visits the funeral and ‘talks’ to Shinji. He tells Shinji how bad he was, the mistakes he made and just reminisced about what he and
♕ personality;
One thing to take note of about Akihiko is that he is captain of the school’s boxing team. This reflects his weapon of choice in battling against Shadows. Yes, he uses his fists. As a fighter, he’s very, very enthusiastic about fighting and has an endless drive for fighting. At the beginning of the game, his arm was injured and couldn’t join the other S.E.E.S members in exploring the Tartarus. He kept on wanting to come along during the missions even if he couldn’t, but Mitsuru just kept on stopping him (which usually ended up with Akihiko glaring or huffing and all that). His daily schedule includes waking up, food, thoughts on fighting, strategizing tactics, school, food, more school, boxing time, food, fighting, fighting, fight fight fight, explore the Tartarus, fight, sleep, and the routine starts off with waking up, food, thoughts on fighting, et cetera. It’s a never-ending cycle.
As for Akihiko’s personality outside the battlefield, well, Akihiko is a very determined guy who hates missing in action, even when it doesn’t have anything to do with the Shadows. His aim is always to win, win, win, and he has pretty much a one-track mind (if that wasn’t obvious). His usual demeanor is cool, calm and collected, which earns him fangirls at his school. He’s kind of like this serious and responsible person which evidently drove all the girls at school crazy over him. Even though he’s popular in school, he doesn’t really like the attention that’s being given to him, which is why he usually just wears a stoic face at school whenever there are girls lurking around corners. At one point, Junpei (a lower classman and fellow Persona user) asked Akihiko if he was hanging out with the girls that were following him, because he'd like to come along too. His reply? "I don't even know their names” or something with the same essence.
Whenever someone is in danger though, Akihiko loses his cool and gives everything he's got in order to bring the peace back, save the person who was being harmed, et cetera.
Akihiko, being a man of many wins, hates losing and takes it really hard when defeat befalls upon him. While he may take it hard though, he only sulks for quite a while, and later on regains motivation to train more, fight more, win more.
He isn't the most social person in the entire world as well. For one, he only talks to people he's got business with, and he doesn't understand girls. To those people he's comfortable with; he's actually pretty lax and not your usual drywall that you see at school.
After a certain event in the game though, Akihiko changes his resolve, and it becomes evident in his personality. Despite losing one of his closest friends, he only felt depressed for a short while, and then regained his drive to fight (a.k.a. his normal self) again. There was a slight change in his personality though, as he started perceiving fighting as serious business and not just something that he likes doing, and at the same time, he’s dedicated fighting to Shinji and promises to get revenge for what happened to him.
Soooo, that’s him in a nutshell. Hopefully all that made sense. :D
♕ abilities;
Just like the other main characters of Persona 3, Akihiko has the ability to summon a Persona, which reflects the wielder’s personality and subconscious, and is capable of immense power. Initially, his Persona is called Polydeuces, which has healing abilities, and at the same time, can generate lightning/electric attacks. After Shinji’s death, Akihiko goes through a few things, thinks about what had happened the previous day, changes his resolve, which gives rise to his new Persona, Caesar.
Being a wielder of a Persona, Akihiko is also equipped with an Evoker, which is required to summon a Persona into the real world. Evokers which humans like Akihiko use look like handguns. These Evokers will be pointed to their heads, as if they were to commit suicide by a headshot. It does not harm the user, however, so it's pretty much harmless, but may intimidate those who don't know what it's for.
