A Top-Secret Meeting Room in the Basement of the Pentagon, Monday Afternoon (Fandom Time)

"Okay, so what am I looking at?" Jack asked, gesturing at the display behind him.

"Uh... A map?" Daniel replied. He could probably tell from Jack's glowering that that was the wrong answer.

"A starchart," Sam added helpfully. She flickered a little, due to cosmic rays or something between the Earth and wherever the hell the General Hammond was today. Her being present as a hologram was almost as good as really being here -- alien technology took telecommuting to a whole new level.

Jack facepalmed. "Look, un-helpful was what I got from the eggheads in the building when I asked them. Now that you're here, I'm hoping for something a little less 'un'." He traced his finger around a blank area in the center of the map. "Here. Tell me what you see here."

"Nothing."

"Empty space."

Jack sighed. "Good. Okay. So, now we're at least on the same page. Now, do you know what was right here, in this area, this morning?"

Daniel and Sam looked at each other and shrugged. "That's a pretty quiet region," Sam answered. "Nothing there... It would be a good place for a ship to go if it wanted to hide."

"No, not a ship!!!" Jack spat. "Planets! Stars! There were at least a dozen Stargates there! Pleeeease tell me you believe me!" He tapped the map, for emphasis. "They've completely disappeared from our database. All of the mission logs from when we -- you, me, and Teal'c -- us, personally -- the logs from when we explored these planets are missing! Everyone here thinks I'm crazy!"

Daniel and Sam exchanged another look. This time, it was Daniel who spoke up. "Uh, Jack, I don't know how to say this, but... are you sure that you're not... uh..."

"I am NOT GOING SENILE!!!" Jack yelled.

"Okay, okay," Daniel replied hastily, waving his hands in concession. "So, let's work on the assumption that planets are disappearing, and you're the only one who can tell. What does that give us? If that's the case, they're not simply being destroyed, they're... literally being erased from existence."

"It would have to mean reality was being altered on a fundamental level," Sam added. "Jack, you've had so many experiences that no one else has -- downloading the Ancient databases into your head, time loops, alternate universes, that island you were on -- it's not surprising that you'd be able to perceive something the rest of us can't."

"Or I could be hallucinating," Jack admitted. "It's a possibility." He sighed. "Okay, so... let's go with that. Sam, how far away is the General Hammond from--"

Sam had already started tapping at something beside her, and she interrupted as soon as she got an answer back. "About two hours, at maximum speed," she answered. "That should give me enough time to modify the sensors to--"

"Good." This time, it was Jack's turn to interrupt. "Do whatever sciencey-thing you think will help. Just... keep a safe distance, okay, Sam? I want you to keep at least one star visible between you and this region at all times. If you need to get closer, send a probe."

Sam nodded. "Aye, sir. I will. Carter out."

She flickered and disappeared, leaving her chair empty. Daniel got up and walked over to put a hand on Jack's shoulder. "Don't worry. We believe you."
