Anniversary of Jeff Buckley's Death

May 29, 2005 23:32

Eight years ago, a magical man died in the Mississipi River. His death is a tragic romantic death and his music is just that. In death, as in life, he reflects the musical romantic nature of life. And for that gift, of taking the pain of love, the tattering feeling of lost while trying to growing up, and the happiness of the lone night and giving ( Read more... )

I like this.
I still haven't really 'gotten' Jeff Buckley yet because I heard his father Tim first who is, at this point, more musically appealing. However, you are the second person with really beautiful things to say about his music, so I'll keep listening. Hopefully it will click.
(the other person is my gorgeous and brilliant friend Evren, whose name on here is "de_cryptic")
Maybe I'll see you over the summer?

I will be teaching at Wellesley and told that I will have days off. Might I count on a lovely day off or two with such a splendid lad as yourself?

recently I had to write an essay to accompany the application I filled out for an art college out west. In the essay I had to write about which artists I feel are vanguard in my field or which artists I felt had influenced me. This was a very difficult essay for me to write because I don't hold any significant influences in the visual art field, so instead I chose to write about how important music was in my life and how it was the single greatest inspiration for any creativity inside me. More specifically I talked about the affect of a single album, Grace.

It was so long ago that I was taken in by his music and I don't rely on it as much as I once did, but I've noticed one thing about people who enjoy his music; there is this kind of silent kinship that we gain through the tragedy of his song. We share little pieces of the same old soul and the fact something like that even exists is awesome.

The first time I heard Jeff Buckley was driving one night in the car with my sister. It changed everything for me.

What a relief to come to Vassar and realize that someone else was just as moved by his life and his music as I was.

I love you, Ethan. Hope you're having a good summer. Next year, lets take a night walk again. Go through the garden and on the bridge over Sunset Lake.

Love, Kathryn
