Hm.
If you're not upset about dropping the hobby, drop it. Its expensive and uneccisary.
If you'd like to hold on to Kanoa, you could find a friend who would loan you some money and hold him as collateral until you could buy him back.
And if you decided you didn't want to buy him back or that you really didn't miss him while he was gone, then let him/her keep him.

Real life always comes before hobbies. Who cares what people on teh internetz will say about you, people will always gossip about others no matter what
