The twenty-first death: Politics, birthdays, and, above all, artists

[It's Susan's frequency, but it seems the journal has been turned on by accident, as there's the rustling of papers and the thunk of the journal being set down again; the chink of a teacup in a saucer... and then a weary sigh.]

How pointless...

Politics, a town of ghosts and monsters, Long Night... And now this... ( Read more... )

getting away for a while, what is it now?, mostly human, politics made cynical, long night is loooong, hiding out for long night, normality? what's that?, that time again already?, ordinary life, a dearth of chocolate, i hate being a duchess sometimes, well that's not good, being useful

Bu-ling is Bu-ling, so you can just say Bu-ling, oneechan. Did you get anything cool for your birthday?

I will keep that in mind.

Given that I myself did not remember it was my birthday until just a few moments ago, I would hardly expect others to have remembered.

So... what can we learn from art, anyway?

[She may... not be the right person to ask about that sort of thing. Hence her hesitation.] I am given to suppose that through art one may... see from the perspective of another unlike ourselves.

[For a bullshit answer, that's not actually half bad...]

It's your birthday, Miss Sto Helit? Well, I hope it's a good one.

...actually, I was wondering if you'd gone down to look at the art exhibit yet. It's got a political angle, and I'd like to hear what you think of it. What I'm trying to say is...would you like to check it out with me?

Was, actually Mr. Wright. It was, at the very least, quiet.

I had not yet had the opportunity, no. [She hesitates, because while it's art, and she has a so-so relationship with art, it is politics, and it is important she make an appearance--and who better to do so in the company of than someone she can have a decent conversation with.] I believe I will take you up on that kind offer, thank you very much.

Well, that's good, for some. You didn't really strike me as the sort to throw a ship-wide party. I hope you enjoyed it, anyway.

[She said yes? Great!]

Okay. When should I meet you down there?

Getting a fair amount of work done without too many interruptions is usually a good thing, in my view, yes.

The afternoon, perhaps? We could take a break for tea, perhaps.
