First Solo Puppet-Head!

Jun 06, 2007 07:56

After being inspired by our puppet making session at chez atomisk and saviri2023 I constructed my first puppet head solo!

Picture below the cut (and I apologise for the cameraphone quality image).

I was having issues working out where to put the seams in the fur because doing it where I made my cuts in the foam would have ended up with the fur running in random directions.

I chose do do it straight down the middle and I think that's the right place - I just need to do it more accurately. Also, I need to cut that material with a razor blade as scissors create way too much fur.

Also, if you look at the right hand side of the mouth, top jaw you can see where the fur is almost cut straight.

Of course I'm going to see imperfections.

So, sunglasses and a Blues Bros type hat and an orange monster body (maybe two-handed instead of rodded - not sure yet).

The trick to hiding seams is cutting long. You have to cut everything a bit long and hide it in the back. For heads, let the bottom of the cloth run long to act as the neck.
I look at the orange beastie you created and I see a single eye obscured slightly by fur. We may want to attach it with Velcro.
We can come up with an character from there.

Note - this head was all practice of the techniques so I put zero thought into character or how to decorate...

Yes, there will be a cthulu puppet... and an FSM puppet.

In fact, "Hello Cthitty"

Cthulu puppet would be fantastic. The orange fur is great though. My neighbour Carolyn is a puppeter but she uses a scary wooden puppet called Tippety Twig which I think is a rod puppet.

/me puts check Livejournal into his PDA as a reminder.
