Crying because this line:

'He realizes doing anything now to undercut her happiness, at such a late stage in the game, would be beyond cruel.'

Marvelous - and I cannot wait for part two :D

Aw, thanks! The Jack pining for Liz story has been done to the death, so I'm trying to put a fresh spin on it. Hopefully I'll succeed... :)

Oh my goodness, I love every part of this. It totally kills me whenever Jack gets protective of her.
Can't wait until the next part!

I'm quite intrigued by Jack's state of mind at this point in the series, so I loved this! Plausible, and yet restrained.

Thanks! I'm really curious as to why the writers decided to make Jack single again at such a late stage in the game. So I guess I'm offering my own shipper-friendly explanation.

Also, I have to thank you - your fic "Repression" inspired me to write this and made me want to explore Jack's post season 6 way of thinking. :)

You're welcome! (Although I think you mean "A Mess", which is almost a prequel to this).

I have to agree that Jack's endgame is pretty muddy now. I suppose he gets Kabletown, but pre-Avery he seemed to be on a track to finding the first really healthy romantic relationship of his life. It would be a weird regression for the character to get his professional goal and be perfectly happy with that while his personal life was a wreck. There isn't much time to introduce someone new, and the "good" women are Liz, CC, and Nancy, and at least one of them appears to be taken.

Just as at the end of Season 5, you'd think they were lining up things for Jack/Liz endgame if we didn't know better.

D'oh - I did mean "A Mess!" Silly me. I think the writers believe Jack's endgame is becoming CEO and that his love life is secondary. Which seems completely absurd to me, given what we know about the character and how excited he got when he thought he was in love. A part of me is still holding out for Jack to make a last minute play for Liz, but I think that awkward kiss they had in the second Queen of Jordan episode made it clear that Fey still thinks Jack/Liz = gross. :(
Also - I'm a nerd and checked out what Julianne Moore is up to these days and, according to IMDB, she's pretty busy. So I'm thinking if any of Jack's previous "normal" gfs come back, it'll be CC.
