He can’t yet reject Sam and voice his own pain and anger. But he will no longer protect Sam from anybody else’s. It’s not until Bobby reclaims Sam and tells him he will never cut him out that Dean knows he must voice his own feelings about all that went before. This is a really good point, I hadn't even recognized that this is what was going on. I feel like the episode went by so fast that I missed all the nuances.

A gut reaction need to find the one other being that he felt he could trust, because the person he was with, Sam, he couldn’t trust any more. Oh, Dean. Yes, I can totally see this being the reason why he was determined to find Castiel (aside from being genuinely concerned).

Sam on leaving the hotel room after Demon!Bobby’s rejection must have been feeling completely alone. That scene broke my heart. Jared Padalecki did an amazing job in that scene conveying his emotions and looking so hurt.

Bobby for giving Sam some hope which I think he sorely needs. I agree!! Sam is going to need a little help to get him through his ( ... )

Thank you :-)

I agree with you. Fake!Dean's voicemail convinced Sam that he was alone in this and had no choice but to follow through with the plan as hatched by Ruby. It gave him the push to follow through with the murder of the nurse for the demon's blood. Dean will have to step and deal as well.

I wonder if the production team put Dean on the raised dias in their room on purpose. Does he feel that he occupies the higher moral ground?

Funny, I thought the same thing, and then got stuck in Star Wars mode with Obi-Wan yelling “I’ve got the high ground” to Anikan. LOL

Yes, I agree, Sam was very passive and it was interesting that they chose to have him out of focus in many of the scenes with Dean (contrast that to the end of S4 when they weren’t even shot in the same frame) at least they are together now, it’s just not clear.

Are they going to deal with Dean’s phone call and voice message? I mean really this is on top of my list of things that I want to clear up. Sometimes I get too focused on the little things...::sigh::

I need that to be addressed too!!!!!

And Becky! Well, I guess she was the only comic relief in a painful episode.

LOL! I'm glad it wasn't just me. Sometimes I think I read way too, too much into the production and backgrounds.

Ouu...yes like now that his role in opening the gate was over, he was out of phase with the rest of the action and with Dean. His part had been played. I love your point.

at least they are together now, it’s just not clear.

...but still separated. By the focus of the scene or the set design. Nice thought!

You want the phone thing dealt with too...good. I think alot of people do. Quite frankly I hope they are saving it for a later and more dramatic reveal during the boys reunion. Because if it never gets dealt with then the whole "Becky the fan" fiasco took important time from a dramatic plot device. I know some people found this take on fandom funny, but I didn't. Different strokes I guess.

Thank you for commenting :-) I love having conversations about this stuff.

Dean has been broken in Hell and then reforged. He will never break to another’s will again.
Wow. I love this thought.

Dean is Michael’s vessel?? Hmmmm so how is this different to being Daddy’s Blunt Instrument?
Choice. Freewill. While Dean would have to consent to let Michael use his body, he has no say in what Michael does with it once he's got it. Whereas he faithful followed his father's orders, however Dean had a choice in how he carried those orders out. And there was always the option to disobey.

I completely forgot about the fake voicemails. But even so, Sam was so far gone. I'm not sure he could have turned himself around. In fact, if Dean had gotten to Sam in time would he even have believed Dean or would he have thought it was a trick?

At first, I had the same reaction to Lucifer's vessel being boringly named Nick. But I now I find it a bit funny, like Castiel's vessel being named Jimmy. Both couldn't be more different than the angels possessing them.
