[The feed cuts in to what seems to be the ending of a meeting, or a formal conversation. After a few minutes, it's clear that this is probably a meeting between the noble houses in Soul Society. Rukia is speaking.]

--as I would hope you take a look into these issues. It is our duty to show that we are still strong and the people of Soul Society are ( Read more... )

Excellently put. I'm not clear on the details of your duties, but from here it seems that you were quite right to leave.

...this recorded. I shouldn't be surprised.

Currently, I've been placed at the head of the clan, and therefore I must take on the duties that the household requires. That meeting was with the lower nobles of the Society, and unfortunately, they're not exactly welcoming to those not born in the bloodline.

I had hoped that those in the world beyond would have grown past judging others by the status they were born into. Evidently, I was being too optomistic.

It's unfortunate, though I'm surprised to see them act in such a matter this openly. They were never this rude or indecent around Nii-sama.

...it is disgraceful for nobility to be acting as such. I wholeheartedly agree with your sentiments, despite your former position, that makes no difference in the here and now.

One would think that being in the higher class would yield more common sense and intelligence than what they are displaying.

[She sighs, obviously not pleased.]

Yes, one would think, after so many years, that certain people had reached maturity by now. I'm not sure whether I should be more appalled at their behavior, or curious as to why they have never been so outwardly indecent before. It's most likely due to the nature of my older brother being gone.

Your brother holds a lot of prestige, then. That might explain it. They must be jealous of your position in order to make such appalling comments while he is away. Cowards, the lot of them.

We're the last of the remaining high noble houses, so that may be why there is jealousy among the lesser nobles. Still, I'm sure his presence has a major importance in the court that I do not have at this point.

[ Have a Berry seething just as violently, even though he wasn't allowed inside. Drawbacks of living in paper houses. ]

That is such bullshit! Who the hell was the rat bastard that started it?! I want his name, and then I'll hand that fucker his ass!

[She sighs, obviously still mad, but then shakes her head.]

Hurting him is pointless, Ichigo. It won't help at all, not at this point. Still, I'm surprised about how indecent they were towards me, as I don't ever recall them reacting that way with Nii-sama around.

[ Half-sprawling, and scowling up a storm, he nudges Rukia's shoulder with his own. ]

Why the hell not? I bet Byakuya scared the piss out of all of those stuffy nobles, and they watched what they said around him.

[She smiles lightly, but then clutches her forehead and rubs it, trying to ease the pain of an oncoming headache. The stress in being head of the clan is a lot more than she's bargained for, and it's driving her nuts.]

I'd rather not have to deal with even more issues if I can help it. Being head of the family is a lot more work then when I was a Shinigami.

True. Which is why they're probably not afraid to say these things to me now. They know he's locked up, so therefore insulting me is no longer out of reach.

[She blinks, and then pauses in her train of thought, before saying anything else.]

Was this what he had to deal with every time I was mentioned by them...? Nii-sama...

Ignore them, Kuchiki-san, you have more class in your pinky than the lot of them in their whole body.

Thank you, Kisuke-san. That was my intention, as it seems they've never taken a liking to me from the beginning.

I'm sure you'll come up with a way to campaign your thoughts and feelings. Even they can't ignore the little people whose legs they stand on.

Bah, they haven't changed at all. Pack of assholes, the lot of 'em.

Good job telling 'em off, Rukia. You show 'em.

...Thank you, Yoruichi-san. I felt it was necessary to at least remind them that they should act with maturity in the roles they've been given.
