Very true, but I couldn't picture Thompson just dying of cancer, or a heart attack in his sleep. I always figured he'd die in some interesting way, like being mauled to death during a life or death struggle with some bear he was trying to chase off his property, or beaten to death by an angry couple of geriatric Hells Angels that he may have said a few unkind words about in his book. I do know this, apparently he went out on his own terms which, though I hate to say it, is probably the only way I could ever imagine him going out.
