So we've had our first rehearsal with Dale on a new Bulgarian tune (as well as a handful of traditional Middle Eastern tunes).  It's a kopanica (also: kopanitsa) dance tune in 11/16.  Sounds something like the following:

In high school, I was very fond of a song by Primus called "Eleven" (which is, you guessed it, in 11/8.) When they headlined Lollapalooza one year, one of my best friends (who was a percussionist) and I took great delight in watching hordes of people trying to headbang in time with the beat, mostly unable to keep with the meter.

Mmmmm, music geekery.

Where the heck is Deano's Vino, anyway?

I remember that Primus tune! Yes, music geekery, indeed!

Deano's is located in the fountain square district in south Indianapolis, 1112 Shelby Street. We play a monthly World Music and Dance night there--you should come. ;)
