Passing on a quick interests meme

hm... since I asked cluebyfour about his interests, I feel obligated to pass on the meme, too...

Ask me about any item in my interests list, and I'll explain what it is, why it's there, whatevah. Beware since some of the explanations may not be as interesting as whatever you imagined the explanation to be. Actually, if you come up with an really interesting ( Read more... )

I have no idea who/what that is.

Also, the link in your post points to my info page, not yours. ;-)

laf... shortly after I woke up I started thinking, "I remember copying the link but I don't remember changing the username..." ;-) That's what I get for posting when I am sleepy, I guess. Fixed now.

Aya Hasebe is a character from Comic Party. She's the archetypal 'quiet girl that has a lot going on under the surface' that shows up a lot in anime, particularly in ones adapted from h-games (since those are all about the archetypes). In stories where more than one acquaintance are vying for some guy's affections, I frequently end up pulling for the ones who never seem to 'win'... the quiet girl, the class president, etc. The guy usu ends up with the freaky stalker-type, though. I guess that makes sense since the guy is usu just drifting along... the most [psychotically] focused pursuer is bound to secure him.

Ah, Comic Party. I've heard good things about that one.

I would love to get more anime (Cowboy Bebop, FLCL, .hack//SIGN, Ghost in the Shell, All-Purpose Cultural Cat Girl Nuku Nuku, etc.), but the DVDs are so expensive. :-/

Comic Party had a very interesting subject area. There's a second series that is out in fansubs at the moment, but that is a lot more fan-servicey.

Cowboy Bebop is a pretty good deal, since they put so many eps on each disk. The dub isn't bad, either, which is unusual. Buying anime is becoming more of an issue for me these days as a higher percentage of stuff that I liked in fansubs is making its way over here. It is annoying that the subtitling is, in general, a lot worse than in the fansubs. Animes like kodocha, where the Sana-chan frequently goes off on some high-speed raveout in the background while other characters are speaking are the worst. Usu the dvd version just presents the foreground conversation. There's just something that feels wrong about buying a dvd, leaving it on my shelf, and watching the fansub instead. :-P I would add "especially when we're not exactly rolling in cash", but that's pretty much a given. ;-)

Yes, indeedy. evandorkin still cranks out an M&C every so often in an anthology. It must have been pretty cathartic to have the dairy products putting the smackdown on whatever annoyed him at the time. ;-)
