SINCE I AM THREADING AND DISCUSSING THIS: Why I took Takemoto from where I did and my thoughts on his development, etc.
If anyone saw the beta post, I said I was looking to take him after the first season. The problem I realized as I quickly reviewed was that he didn't really show up enough in the second season as this sort of new, confident person for me to be comfortable with that voice. Takemoto as the kicked and pitied puppy of the group with this sort of hapless luck in the process of discovering himself was the character I'd really come to love and was at ease with. I knew I could move forward and give him more canon if I wanted, but I couldn't go back so I picked when he ran out as the furthest point that I could pull him from.
If anyone is interested in where he's from specifically? It's before he sees the North Star train. I can't really pin down the realization that dawned on him, but he found himself in a way by chasing after that train. Somehow, tracing back to his father and seeing it all laid out for him like that just changed everything.
Any other point would have had him focused on his perpetual question of "What am I doing?". He would have stagnated far too easily and seen no point in camp if he came from earlier on. Not to mention, it's easier to pick a time where he left of his own accord rather than having him get pulled from his life. Anyway, Takemoto went on his journey with enough strength to take a good hard look at himself, even if he did get a bit lost on the way. Camp is just him getting lost again. He's back at the temple, stalling until he hears that emptiness and is going to have to figure himself out in camp without being able to run away.
Hmm, I'll cover his growth as a character in the morning.
Questions, comments, concerns, or crit would be really appreciated since this is sort of a complicated and beloved character.
