I highly recommend reading the Google Maps review of Chief's Bar. (You know, the one on Craig & Center with the fire helmet on the sign.) WOW. Sounds like a rough place...

I played darts there once a couple years ago. It was a lot of reggae music and scrappy looking people, but I didn't get the death vibe or anything. Still, I didn't enjoy it.

Yeah... I've walked by many times, but had no real reason to check it out. Now I probably never will.

Oh, I lied. Once I looked at the street view I realized it's Thirsty's (or whatever it's called now) I was at, not Chief's. Now I need to go there.
