[the shot - isn’t that a pleasant change from those grainy old things - opens up on Isabelle lying on her bed, staring up at the ceiling. At a second glance, her left arm is extended upwards as if she’s trying to reach something. Apparently that is what she’s staring at ( Read more... )

[Desmond can easily guess what she's staring at, though last time he'd seen it was hanging over her heart. He doesn't really know how to feel, or what to say, because what's on her hand is also a reminder for him of a brother he never had, of feelings and relationships that didn't really exist but were so real in his mind that he's still deeply troubled and confused about them.

There's a small, amused smile that doesn't reach his eyes when he finally speaks.]

That, I'd like to see.

[and for Isabelle, it was merely an idea of what might have been if Irial had continued to exist in Somarium. Of course, it took the first time they thought they were natives to the city to get them dating the first time, and that was only after a number of fights.

[But that doesn't change that she misses him and still feels a bizarre sense of loss whenever he comes to mind. She returns his smile with a wide one of her own that actually does reach her eyes - the other thing that the ring in her fingers represented iss right in front of her, and it didn't seem like that had changed much. Pausing just a moment, Izzy wonders if there's a chance for them to keep being as close as they were last week before she replies.]

You would. I don't think the cops would be sympathetic to my pleas, even if they once investigated my murder.

[At her smile, his widens slightly, his eyes lighting up as well. For some reasons, he had expected a rather cold reply, perhaps something filled with regret. But now that Isabelle seems still warm to him, the bartender has to admit that the idea had been stupid. This past week had both shown them that they had a lot more in common than what they thought. He chuckles lightly at her comment]

Well, you could always be discreet about it. That's how true assassins do it.

[Don't ask how he knows.]

[if there's one thing Isabelle Lightwood doesn't dwell on, it's regret. She hates the idea of it, figuring that if you have regrets, maybe you should have thought through doing it in the first place.

[The increase in his smile doesn't go unnoticed as she continues to beam at him out of amusement.] Yeah? Back home, I had the glamour to keep me discreet. Here, I actually have to watch my back. It's kind of disconcerting.

Isabelle-chan~ Could it be a love letter that you're fidgeting with even though you're trying to appear cool about it?

I wish. [she laughs, already cheered up slightly. She holds up the wedding ring dangling on its thin chain.] Apparently it's from my ex. Who knew, right?

Don't think I didn't consider pilfering your closet. I was bored and 20's fashion was a favorite of mine.

I'll trade you, then. I bet you've got something kicking around that I'd be willing to trade for a couple dresses. Assuming they're still in there.

Well, if they're not, I'm still willing to barter. Your wardrobe certainly has a greater appeal than your brother's.

I'd hope so. Doesn't even matter which one you're talking about - I dress better than any of them. Max doesn't count, though.

What do you say to a post-spring cleaning of the closets and clothes swap?

[Jessamine is still getting over the fact that her hair was that short. How unladylike. How very unlike her in general. Not to mention how she was engaged to Desmond but let's just not talk about that for now.]

Their sense of fashion was absolutely appalling.

It wasn't that bad. Hated the hair, but the dresses were kind of cute. [oh, you don't want to talk about that? Too bad. Izzy's definitely bringing it up at some point.]

If you wished to look like a common street rat perhaps. No lady would ever wear those dresses!

Well, now it's all over and you can go back to covering your ankles. Problem solved.

I'd appreciate getting back any semblance of sanity, rather than those things.

Pretty sure sanity is something most people have disregarded altogether here. Sorry about that.

Which is why I said a 'semblance' of sanity. I'm well aware that actual sanity is hard to find.

[He comes from a world where he's pretty much the sanest person around, okay.]

[oh man, life must be hard for him here.]

A semblance might be pretty hard to find, too. Have you seen half the stuff that goes on around here?
