Someone on a moms forum I'm on posted today about how she is trying to decide between 2 preschools. One is cheaper and "warmer feeling" apparently, but only goes 3 days a week. The other is expensive and "cold", but is 5 days and has better acedemics. In what universe are acedemics important for a 4 year old? Who gives a fuck? They're FOUR. ( Read more... )

Seriously. I have a bunch of online friends who are freaking out about putting their kids into private schools, immersion programmes etc etc. We took a look at the local elementary school saw how warm the teachers were, that they obviously cared about the kids and that was good enough for us.

I couldn't agree more.

I hate the pressure put on children, especially a 4 year old, to be some crazy genius child. I can honestly say that if James (my son) chose to work as a ditch digger, if that made him happy, I wouldn't care. My only criteria for him as far as his future education/job goes is that he's happy and he's a productive member of society.
