So one of the more badass pieces of cookware I inherited is a shiny new deluxe All-Clad slow cooker. It's big, seven quarts, and supposed to be pretty much the fanciest and best you can buy.

It's hard to make a bad stew in one of those things. Meat, stock, veg. Brown the meat first.

Yeah, I've heard that this is the best way to make a pot roast, too.

Success! Damn good stew, pretty much exactly what I imagined a good stew should be.

My favorite cookbook of all time is a burned, splashed and battered 5th edition of the Better Homes and Gardens cookbook. And there are some GREAT recipes for slow cooking in there.

Failing that, There are some great recipes on the Whole Foods website, including some stews and soups.

Otherwise, I wish you good luck as you go hence and simmer.

Ah, well I think my ladyfriend might have a BH&G cookbook. I'll take a gander at that. And the Whole Foods site, too!

With a toddler, two working parents and a baby on the way, the crock is the way we roll!

Any kind of meat, throw it in in the morning with water/broth/veggies/juice/etc. and behold the simmer-power.

I have a party-sized crock pot that's been used only once, but would be useful if we ever end up having a house party of some sort. We do, however, have a smaller ceramic cooking pot like the one shown here (top right) that works wonders. We use it often to make shabu-shabu and gyudon, both of which are delicious, easy, and slow-cooking dishes.
