...'cause I finally have a hat suitable to get married in. Well. No.
But, more importantly, I found the Chilean version of
zarfmouse:
Anyway, there's been a 2-week long International Fair of Popular Art that finished up yesterday. I'd gone through it several times to look at what's there. Lots of cool stuff. I've wanted one of the traditional ponchos (called "chamantos," I'm told), for a little while. But the one thing I learned from the
picture of the APEC leaders this past November, is that you can really look like an idiot wearing one. But from seeing
these guys on one of my bike rides, I realized you just need the proper hat! Maybe a mustache, but I'm not willing to go that far. Besides, a hat worked without a poncho back when I was
riding a horse.
So I found the sombrero guy (after I got the poncho), and found a hat I liked. Paid for it, and after he handed it to me, I figured I might want to try it. Too small. Nutso. I thought I'd be SOL, but he said told me to return in half an hour, and he'll have a properly sized one... after he measured my head. So I walked off, and about 5 minutes later I was walking by his booth. Somehow I didn't realize that he'd be working it right there. And I've never seen a hat being worked on. Real interesting to watch. I don't have time to explain now. Not only did I forget to watch the beginning of it, I didn't have my camera with. Later in the day I had my camera and took pictures of him working a different hat. Pictures
here. I'll try to put up descriptions later.
Now, I tells ya, this is a quality hat.
And, of course, the poncho! (I told you it looks stupid without the hat!). And I bought tassels that you're supposed to wear on your belt.
And I also got a
poncho and hat for my liquor bottles.
Heehee!!!!!
