Summary: Korean Mythology meets Shakespearean Literary-this story is basically a spinoff from Shakespeare’s popular archetypal story of young, teenage star crossed lovers but with a mixture of Korean myth (ranging from the creation of Korea to shamans and hwarangs), so yeah, the story will flow differently from the Romeo and Juliet one.
Author’s note: This is a work of fiction. Names, characters, and events are the product of the author’s imagination (Well in my story, it would only be for the ‘events’ part since this is a fan fiction) or are used fictitiously and any resemblance to actual persons, living or dead, events, or locales is entirely coincidental. (The heck! XD) And introducing to you guys my other OTP aside from CL/Seungri... -it's Minzy/Seung-yoon (Kang Seung-yoon from Superstar K2 who recently became a trainee in YG)! I hope you would give this pair a chance since this pairing is kind of relatively new (but I featured them in my drabbles for the Drabble Challenge so I dunno)… Maknaes of YG Family, unite! LMAO ^^
oh yes, finally had some banner for this! credit goes to jjang

"A greater power than we can contradict hath thwarted our intents."
- William Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet, 5.3
As she caressed the wind that blows her way, she started to hum these words, “Let me ask you, butterfly, do you remember your cocoon? Perhaps you recall spinning thread, a caterpillar's ungainly crawl? If we can jog your memory, maybe there is hope for me*.”
She began to sway her body into the rhythm of her own voice. Raising both of her arms up in the air, swiftly, gently, and elegantly, she began to tread the narrow path. She walked gracefully on top of one of the ledges surrounding the school’s rooftop. Her heartbeat gradually increased as she performed the Bakjeommu* dance at an exceptionally high place. Executing a ritual dance on the rooftop, and on top of the ledge at that, the thrill brought an ecstasy to her senses and she loved every bit of it. Her skirt fluttered through the breeze and her hips moved up, down and sideward, sensually. With her short hair swinging to and fro and eyes still tightly closed, she puckered her lips. She stopped her early hymn; mixing a classical sijo* with an old local ritual dance wasn’t really blending well, she thought. She was just about to reach the end of the ledge and would soon plant her final step on it signaling the end of her performance when she heard the loud sound of the rooftop’s iron door being banged unto the concrete wall. Her eyes jutted open and as a reflex, she turned to where the sound came from. Her heartbeat did not cease to increase as her gaze struck a familiar face. She immediately withdrew her hands that were suspended on air and planted it firmly to her side; she then fixated her eyes to the people who just entered the rooftop, a group of five young men with a very attractive girl in tow was on display. They didn’t notice her at first since they were all busy laughing at the guy who was pinned unto the iron door by the tough-looking dark-haired guy. It seemed like the dark-haired guy was cornering the other guy to make him confess something to the amusement of the other people around them. That guy looked as if he didn’t mind being held in force though; he was quite cool about it and his lips were even curved into a sneer. The girl watching them dismissed her initial thought that the guy being cornered was being bullied by his companions. The other two guys went to the side of the dark-haired one, cackling and urging on. The last guy at the farthest end, near the entryway snickered and shook his head while his left hand reached for the hand of the bemused girl on his side. He intertwined their hands and looked up at her with a rather serious look. The girl flinched but she eventually smiled radiantly at the guy’s action. This made Minzy’s heart sank in a bottomless pit, she was stoned on top of the ledge. Just then, the pinned guy on the iron door looked around and his glance stopped at her direction. His eyes bulged, probably in disbelief that there’s a girl standing over the ledge staring back at them.
“Huh? Y - Yah! That’s dangerous!” Onew shouted in alarm.
His voice was so loud that it seemed as though it reverberated around the area, though there were no walls around the place to make the sound bounce back. Nonetheless, his panicking voice prompted the other people to look at the direction he was shouting at. Minzy was caught on top of the ledge and she knew too well that the picture she was in was bound to bring misunderstanding. She abruptly fixed her posture; she was overcome by dread as well when she saw them approached her cautiously, slight emotion of fear reflected on their eyes, and their every movement were measured. She would have laughed at that, if not for Taemin’s serious gaze; they were certainly treating her as a person with a special case that in any miscalculated advance and unnecessary movement, she’d go berserk and jump off the building. The school roof was filled with tense atmosphere, as if entirely coincidental, there wasn’t any puff of wind at all.
“Get down there, right this instant!” Jong-hyun warily ordered.
“Minzy-ah…” Taemin’s soft voice called for her.
“You know her?!” Key questioned, one brow rising. He was too appalled that made Taemin frown at him.
All eyes then turned towards Taemin. The guy nodded in return and with a warm gentle smile he said, “We’re both in Class 1-C, and in Theater Club, so of course.”
Suddenly, Sulli appeared from behind Taemin and inquired in a faint voice to him, “Was she trying to commit-?” cutting off Sulli’s words immediately to avoid anymore misunderstandings, Minzy cried in frustration, “It’s not what you think! Look guys, I’m not trying to commit you-know-what,” her eyes wandered around each of their faces looking very solemn, her stare lingered towards Taemin’s face a little longer as she continued talking, “Okay… I’ll get down now to calm you all off, geez.”
Sulli looked flabbergasted, she hid behind Taemin again. Taemin chuckled at her; she was probably discomfited from the misunderstanding she voiced out.
(Well it was rather insensitive of her to ask that kind of question if I’m really going to commit something like that, tsk) Minzy pursed her lips as she thought that.
Onew, Minho and Key walked in front of her to help her get down but Minzy was having a petty dilemma. She’s wearing a skirt, now how would she move her body in a way that wouldn’t expose her inner thighs? She’s wearing a rather fancy panty-cum-cycling beneath and that surely fired her uneasiness. She was trying to get down on her own, avoiding the stares from Taemin’s friends whilst pulling her skirt tightly to her legs when a gust of strong wind came by. Her left foot was already mid-air and her body bent downwards when that unexpectedly happened. She didn’t know how and why but her other foot slipped backwards making her lose her balance. She was going to fall. Jong-hyun and Key mumbled ‘sh*t’ at the same time while Minho and Onew who were quick to their senses extended their arms frantically to grab her. Minzy stretched her hands towards them too, but it seemed that both parties’ efforts and attempts were futile. Minzy was destined to fall.
She heard the combination of Sulli’s terrified shriek and Taemin’s thundering voice who called after her, “No! Minzy-ah!”
The guys hovered over the ledge looking down at her. The ledge, after all, was there to keep the students from any mishaps, like falling over accidentally, but now, it didn’t serve that purpose too well. Minzy whose back was facing the ground below was forced to look back at them; she couldn’t turn her body 180 degrees while currently air-borne after all. Minzy saw their various horrified looks, and then one by one, they closed their eyes. It seemed like they were awaiting the final verdict. Minzy felt now more than ever the pull of gravity to her body. She believed she was being sucked powerfully by the Earth’s core.
(Ah, damn! I think they saw my undies! What a way to see my undies when I’m about to die!) She gritted her teeth.
Under normal circumstances, this would be the part where a normal person would already be out of his/her wits, or maybe would start to be scared, where a normal person would probably pissed or dump some crap in fear, where a normal person would probably faint instantly or have a heart-attack, but Minzy was ridiculously calm for her own good. Well, she wasn’t a normal person to begin with-she did even pay attention to silly small details like her undies being the last thing seen by the people who would soon be the ones who would last saw her alive. She sighed then flicked her fingers as she began to perform a special chant to save her life. As soon as she hummed, she was distracted by Taemin’s voice. Apparently as she looked at him, his eyes were still widely open and he was calling for her repeatedly.
“Minzy-ah! Minzy-ah!”
She was extremely touched, Taemin genuinely cared for her and that made her heart flutter… but she’d rather be honest with herself given the current position she’s in.
(Taemin-ah, thank you really, but you’re not helping at all, dammit!)
She needed for him to close his eyes so she could continue chanting but it appears that Taemin’s only resolution to give to a dear friend who was about to die a painful death was to see her all the way until her fall ended. At least that much he’d do even if it would bring him nightmares soon after-a corpse lying on the ground with puddles of blood around was no sight to behold after all, what more if one saw how a dying person had his/her last breath.
(I don’t want to die like this!) Minzy screamed in her head.
She was beginning to move her body hysterically, fear slowly enveloping and numbing her senses, just how a normal person would act and feel in this kind of situation. Without a chant she wouldn’t be able to save her falling body from hitting the hard ground below, and even if she did perform a chant it would become utterly ineffective since Taemin’s gaze wouldn’t leave her. Minzy just stared at the sky; the vast blue blanket over her was eerily beautiful and serene, almost to the point that it was as if it was mocking her. She suddenly remembered the principle of free-falling bodies and wondered if it could be applied to her present condition because everything seemed to be in slow-motion considering she was falling from the rooftop of her four-storey school’s main building and it would only just take less than two seconds for her to hit rock bottom, literally. She sighed a long sigh in defeat, she used then the time that’s left of her to say a litany of her loved ones’ names rapidly. She couldn’t believe that tears were blinding her vision now, her heartbeat pulsing wildly.
(It seems until the very end, my spiritual powers are useless to me) Those were her final words when her body crashed unto two lean arms.
(Eh?) Well… that won’t be her final words anymore.
(Eh?) Minzy repeated the thought in her head.
“My, my, that was quite a stunt!” a guy with slight curly hair praised the guy beside him, who caught Minzy plunging down from the rooftop without any hardship, as if she was just a piece of paper plane thrown out from the sky. “How did you do it Seung-yoon-ah?” the guy muttered in astonishment.
Minzy abruptly opened her eyes, only to find out that she was in the arms of the youngest son of the first family of the Tiger Clan. When their eyes locked with each other and sensed each other’s body heat, they both shuddered. Minzy quickly broke away from Seung-yoon’s grasp and the guy equally bent his arm and body down to let Minzy stood on the ground. Whenever a member from their clan comes in contact with one another, their body will shudder in revolt, like that of being struck by electricity, and as a body’s reflex mechanism, they will pull away from each other, precisely what happened just now.
“T-Thanks,” she quietly mumbled, not meeting his eyes. She couldn’t believe she was saved by her rival.
“Anything for a daughter of Ung-yo,” Seung-yoon remarked.
Minzy swiftly glared at him whilst wiping away the tears on her face; he was indifferently glancing back at her. Telling something that is a fact about her identity would definitely involved him too, knowing that he wouldn’t spill the bean when there are outsiders around them, she just sighed exasperatedly. She looked around her. She heard the cheers from the crowd forming around her. She saw that Taemin together with his friends were still in shock but in great relief when they found out that she’s still in one piece and alive, no spurt of blood and possibly even no broken bones. There were only a few people around the campus’ grounds and now she’s sensing that what just happened would soon become an urban legend in Pil-dong* neighborhood and possibly even in all the surrounding areas of Jung-gu*. Well she could be exaggerating a bit about it but out of all days for this kind of bizarre incident to happen, it occurred in Valentine’s Day.
(Great! Just Great!) A gloomy expression passed Minzy’s face.
Too embarrassed to stand still, she took what’s left of her strength to run away. Her legs were still weak from the numbness that overcome her limbs, so she staggered as she ran, away from the curious students surrounding and rushing to hear something from her, away from the sounds of clapping, cheering, and snickering, away from other students’ dubious and questioning looks, away from Taemin and his friends’ field of vision, and especially away from Seung-yoon’s scornful eyes.
“Aww, I feel for her. What happened-well, almost happened to her must really be a distress. Good thing Seung-yoon’s nearby,” Lee-joon, the boy with slight curly hair beside Seung-yoon, commented as he watched the figure of the running girl.
“And geez, you guys! This is no laughing or cheering matter! It’s a very delicate and sensitive incident! Please be considerate and quit nosing around… get back to your own businesses!” Mir with Sang-hyun following behind dispersed the students gathering around Seung-yoon. Seung-yoon just snorted while the students made a ‘boo’ sound as they reluctantly left the four guys.
Sang-hyun went to Seung-yoon’s side; he placed his arm over Seung-yoon’s left shoulder, bent his back and whispered to his ear, “How are you going to explain this? You know there’s a danger in exposing your-”
Seung-yoon didn’t let him finish his sentence as he cut him off and whispered back, “That would be taken care of, so don’t fret… anyhow, can you believe it?”
“Huh? B - Believe what?” Sang-hyun was puzzled.
“That the prey fell right into her hunter’s arms…” and Seung-yoon let out a sound of mirth, “Oh this is such a good omen,” a pleasing smile lingered on his lips.

*Sijo is more ancient than haiku; the Korean sijo shares a common ancestry with haiku, tanka and similar Japanese genres. All evolved from more ancient Chinese patterns. Sijo is traditionally composed in three lines of 14-16 syllables each, totaling between 44-46 syllables. A pause breaks each line approximately in the middle; it resembles a caesura but is not based on metrics (From:
