Here [Fabiola is the last one in this category]
Fabiola is one of ten children born to a poor family in the city of Caracas Venezuela. Having grown up, for the most part, in the slums of the large, South American city, she is not easily fazed by Roanapur’s grimy streets and crime- though the nature of the people themselves does earn her revulsion. When we meet her, however, she has already been in the employ of the Lovelace family for quite some time, serving directly beneath Roberta [Rosarita Cisneros] the ‘Terminator Maid’ from the previous arc involving the young heir to the Lovelace family, Garcia. Not much is known about Fabiola except that she is one of five maids that work in the Lovelace household- and only one of two who is known to have talent with combat. Even still, much of her true talents, much like Roberta’s were, are hidden from her young master until it is otherwise unavoidable.
Fabiola is introduced in the aftermath of sightings of a certain 'Killer Maid' (Roberta) begin circulating in the rumor mills of Roanapur, the fictional city in which Black Lagoon takes place. She enters the Yellow Flag bar in search of the Lagoon Company at the request of her master, the young Garcia Lovelace, and requests that they follow her back to the hotel in which they are staying. Unfortunately, certain elements of the South American cartels had gotten there before her, and they made it a point to let her know that if she was going to do anything, it would be their way. After a distraction from Revy of the Lagoon Company, Fabiola single-handedly decimates both the cartel's enforcers... and the Yellow Flag with a combination of her shotguns and the grenade launcher she keeps hidden in her dress. Once she is fairly certain she has (for the moment, at least) rid herself of the 'nuisance', she leads the Lagoon Company to meet with her young master.
At the Sankan Palace Hotel, Garcia Lovelace is found in the company of Chang, the head of Roanapur's arm of the Triad, and while Fabiola's instinct is to attack him, Garcia berates her for doing so, and chastened, Fabiola falls back to let him explain why it is that they've come to Roanapur. It seems that, after an incident which resulted in the death of Garcia's father, Roberta came unhinged and went rogue, leaving the Lovelace plantation and going to seek those responsible for her previous master's death. Garcia, for all that he's a smart and rather capable boy, cannot find her on his own, and thus seeks the Lagoon company's help in finding her. They decline at first, but as it becomes increasingly obvious that the kids (plus Rock, who is the only one who deigns to help) aren't going to get anywhere by themselves, Revy sees fit to lend her assistance in the matter.
What follows is a bloody and dangerous search through Roanapur, which reveals the involvement of parties greater than most would think were responsible for the death of Garcia's father. However, that doesn't seem to be any sort of deterrent for Roberta, and as Garcia continues his search for her, Fabiola remains at his side, even as that search leads them out of Roanapur and into the jungles of the Golden Triangle. While they do eventually find Roberta, convincing her to return is not without difficulty and a certain degree of bloodshed as Roberta tears her way through those she views as her enemies and those who are simply standing between her and them alike. In the end, however, they do manage to convince Roberta to stop and return home with them, presumably back to the Lovelace plantation.
Character Personality: [I’ll try to keep this spoiler-free for anyone who hasn’t read the arc yet.]
Born into a very poor family in the slums of Caracas, Venezuela, Fabiola is no stranger to hardship and struggling to survive. Having stubbornly taught herself what she believed was necessary for her to survive in such a harsh environment, Fabiola likes to believe that she is thoroughly capable of taking care of herself- and her Young Master, Garcia Lovelace, the young son and heir of the Lovelace family. She was placed under the watchful eye of the Head Maid, Roberta, who covertly began to train Fabiola in the use of firearms for the defense of the Lovelace Plantation and family. Being hired by the Lovelace family was a turning point for Fabiola- she is loyal to them to a fault for this, willing to do anything and go anywhere to serve Garcia, and she takes every little thing she is asked to do very, very seriously.
Actually, Fabiola tends to take a lot of things very, very seriously- almost comedically so, and is constantly having to have the fact pointed out to her by others. She’s easily embarrassed by the fact- as well as by having any of her other idiosyncrasies pointed out, whether it be by the members of the Lagoon Company or her Young Master. Because of this, she is often used as comic relief, usually by Revy or by people meeting her for the first time. It is interesting to note, however, that Fabiola never seems to take much of the teasing to heart, getting over it quickly despite her otherwise rather quick temper. She has a rather sharp tongue coupled with this, and is quick to insult people without hesitation or thought as to what sort of repercussions her words may cause- which very nearly gets her into trouble a couple of times.
Her relatively short fuse notwithstanding, however, Fabiola is actually quite a reasonable girl, and easily pacified by the right choice of words or actions, especially by Garcia, who excels at not only calming her down, but making her rethink the reactions behind her temper. When not in a fit of temper, Fabiola is deceptively polite, and seems disinclined to actual rudeness- though she is blunt far past the point of any proper politeness. As for Garcia, he seems to be not only her Master but someone who acts as a voice of reason when Fabiola is unwilling to relent in her opinion of things or people that earn her disdain. That is something that usually helps her greatly, as she sometimes acts before she thinks when she believes it to be in Garcia’s best interest.
Still, despite her temper and her ability to fight to protect herself and Garcia, Fabiola is actually quite pacifistic, in a sense. She uses guns only when she must, preferring the ability to simply disable her opponents rather than kill them- in the manga she states that this is why she picked up Capoeira- because a master of such a thing wouldn’t have to kill someone to stop them. With guns, there is usually no other recourse, something she seems to dislike rather fiercely. She doesn’t believe in killing unless it is absolutely necessary- and witnessing someone do so is actually something that will enrage her to the point of senselessness- when Revy does it to a South American soldier in the manga after questioning him, Fabiola is quick to point her gun at the older woman, visibly (and very audibly) enraged. She is easily discouraged as well- she does not like thinking she is incapable of helping either her Young Master or Roberta, though as with her temper, such a mood is easily dispersed with the right words from the right person- once again, most notably, Garcia.
Despite all this, Fabiola is at heart a young girl- though a somewhat jaded one at that- and she likes to do the things most young girls do- though she is dutifully hesitant to ask if she thinks it will impose on Garcia or those around her. She is especially fond of pools, and has been known to sneak out to play in the one at the house they stay in while in Roanapur when Garcia is asleep, covertly purchasing both a bathing suit and pool toys- though when and how is anyone’s guess. She is, of course, embarrassed to admit to any such thing, wanting to do her best to emulate the older and, in her opinion, incredible Roberta, whom Fabiola holds in the highest regard, calling her the ‘Head Housemaid’ and reacting angrily when the older woman is referred to rudely.
In the end, Fabiola is still simply one of those girls that does what she must- and a few things she doesn’t quite agree with- to help those she cares for, and as long as they are safe and happy, then so is she.
Character Abilities: Canonically, Fabiola is an amazingly proficient user of the
Capoeira style of martial arts, despite both her young age and the fact that she is mostly self-taught. She’s a very talented hand-to-hand fighter, and due to her small size, is exceptionally quick and agile- so much so that she can actually keep herself out of the line of gunfire while retaliating. In conjunction with that, she tends to use two MAG-7 shotguns, making it a unique style of ‘gun-fu’, so to speak. She also carries a grenade launcher (which she hides in the back of her dress) though she uses that without any martial arts- it is purely for stopping power. It is implied that she is fairly familiar with most firearms, though she prefers weapons with a wide scatter and force, as her aim isn’t very good. It’s also implied that she’s fairly intelligent as she speaks both Spanish and English despite the fact that she's never had much (if any) formal schooling, and in fact is shown reviewing English vocabulary at one point while on the Lagoon Company's boat.
Character Weaknesses: While she’s physically quite the force to contend with, Fabiola is tiny- that means that despite how good a fighter she might be, she can’t do as much damage as someone larger than her. And while it's true that hitting fast can be just as effective as hitting hard, it's something that might not do her much good in a setting like Death City. Her temper is another weak point, as she tends to let her mouth get ahead of her, and sometimes she makes threats she can’t exactly back up. Her anger also makes her a bit irrational, so she's a little prone to making bad decisions in the midst of a fit of temper. Also despite her capacity and talent for fighting, her pacifism will make her not actually wish to fight unless it's absolutely essential- which of course it will be in this setting, but she'll initially be quite resistant to actually doing so.
[ SOUL CAMPAIGN SECTION ]
What are the abilities that your character will retain in Soul Campaign?
- She will likely lose a bit of her natural speed- even for someone from a more ‘realistic’ series, Fabiola is still uncommonly fast.
- She will probably not be able to jump as high or as far as she normally does.
What are the weaknesses that your character will lose or gain in Soul Campaign?
- She will likely gain a bit of an inferiority complex. While she's not exactly vain, Fabiola knows she's good at fighting, so seeing so many people who are just as good if not better than she is will definitely put a dent in her perception of herself.
- She may likely lose her hesitance to do battle, if only because she is the sort to take up fighting for a cause if it is for the good of people who cannot defend themselves.
[ MEISTER ONLY SECTION ]
Why your character should be a Meister: Being a Weapon is not something that would weigh well on Fabiola’s conscience. One of the reasons she states for having learned Capoeira is that while guns (and weapons) can kill easily even in the hands of an amateur, martial arts cannot. With martial arts, in the hands of a master, the amount of damage one does can be controlled. So being a weapon used to hurt or even people indiscriminately and perhaps unnecessarily would have a negative effect on her psyche. Believing that she would be able to control the damage she inflicts on those she fights and perhaps keep from having to kill them as a Meister would be more suited to her. She is also not one to sit idly by and allow herself to be unable to help with the situation as a weapon that cannot join the fray.
Meister Ability:
Soul Adrenaline- With her natural speed, chaining strikes isn’t an issue- however if doing so also makes those strikes more effective, then it would definitely give her a bit of an edge when having to deal with larger opponents.
Soul Rage- Being that she’s got a short fuse and prone to falling prey to her own anger, this is another ability that she would likely be able to use to her advantage in a fight, if only because her hits would land less often when her concentration was broken by her anger, thus making the need for stronger hits to compensate necessary.
Turbo Soul- Being that Fabiola’s fighting style is based mainly on her ability to avoid damage while striking back with her own, an ability that would make it easier for her to avoid said damage would be very beneficial.

[ SAMPLES ]
First Person: [The Shibusen’s microphone picks up first- nothing major, just a few softly-murmured words, barely more than a mumble- as its owner works out the various keys and functions carefully. When the camera finally flickers on, the image of a girl comes into focus, her dark hair falling in waves over her shoulders, tied in two slightly messy pigtails. She would normally curtsy, but she had yet to resume wearing her uniform when she was brought here and so instead she manages a slightly awkward bow given what she’s wearing.]
My name is Fabiola Iglesias, a maid in the employ of one of the thirteen great families of South America, the Lovelace Family.
[Her tone is formal, a little too somber for such a seemingly-young girl, and she dips her head again.]
I understand that there may be more of those that have been brought here by the ah- BREW, wasn’t it?- that I might contact on this network. I hope that we can all help each other attain the goal we were brought here for.
[Because despite the things she’s seen back home, Fabiola can still only hope that the people who have been brought here are like-minded in their desire to return as soon as they can.]
I look forward to working with all of you.
[Another little bow, slightly less awkward this time, and she moves forward until all that can be seen is the fabric of her too-large hoodie for a moment before the Shibusen shuts down.]
Third Person: They were both sleeping quite soundly.
From her seat across from the Head Housemaid and the Young Master, Fabiola curled her arms a little more tightly around herself and felt her own eyelids begin to droop. It would be a while still before they reached the nearest airport capable of getting them out of Asia, and there was no need, at the moment, for her to exhaust herself further. Granted, she was a light sleeper regardless, and any irregularity would wake her but… for the moment, at least, she could relax. And relax she did, leaning back in her seat and tightening her arms around herself again to try and warm up, eyelids already fluttering with sleep. The last few days had been more tiring than any she’d had before and the full weight of them bore down on her as she closed her eyes and fell into a deep and thankfully dreamless sleep.
When she woke to more darkness and flat on her back besides, her immediate reaction was to test her limbs to see how well they were operating. Upon finding them entirely unhindered, her worry decreased- but only slightly. As her eyes adjusted to the gloom, she pushed the sleeves of her hoodie up, frowning at her arms when she found them bare, the mechanisms she usually strapped her guns to conspicuously absent- along with the weapons themselves. A quick inventory of her person revealed that her spare was gone, and her sneakers were not like her mary janes, and thus had no blades concealed in their heels. She was alone and unarmed, but suspiciously unharmed, in some strange, dark room…
And those chains criss-crossing all over the place weren’t making her situation look any more inviting.
“Hello?!” She finally called out, her voice reverberating, small and hesitant, throughout the large space. She frowned and swallowed thickly before trying again, voice louder and more forceful. “Whoever you are and whatever you want… I will not be subjected to whatever it is you are planning, nor will I help you if your aim is to bring harm to the Young Master or the Head Housemaid! If you believe that you are capable of containing both myself and her, you are gravely mistaken!” When no reply came, not even mockery, she swallowed again and clenched her fists. “Do you hear me? I will not be a pawn in this-!”
Her words were cut off as screens flickered to life, and she wondered how she had missed them in her exploration. So. Someone had heard her then.
“What is this? Who are you?”
Her questions were met with nothing, for a moment, but before she could open her mouth to try and demand answers once more, the man on the screen began to speak, and with each passing moment, Fabiola regretted ever taking that nap a little more.
