Tangierino

Let me just start this off by saying that I'm officially convinced that Restaurant Week is a scam. You save nothing. In fact, you wind up spending way more on dinner than you would normally. That's number one. Number two: despite the sticker shock at the end of the meal, I enjoyed Tangierino. The food was very good. The salad I had with blood red ( Read more... )

It's true. It's just a marketing tool for making people excited about being part of something "exclusive". I did the math with Alan when he told me he was going somewhere for restaurant week. I looked up the regular menu price and you save probably $2-$3 if that, but I bet your portions would've been larger if you just went on a regular non-restaurant week.

i know. we have reservations for Realto tonight. it's just a good excuse to go to these places. and you know since there is a limited selection on the menu, they save money by buying/making things in bulk.

If you hear the microwave running in the kitchen, just stand up and yell "Rat" and maybe you'll get a free meal out of it.

HAAA! So, I just did the math on last night's dinner and I definitely saved a good amount of money, but I would also never order three courses for myself. Anyhoo... live and learn.

i totally agree. i spent $45 on monday at bamabara, $45 more than i would ever spend on a monday night! haha

its probably a good place for dessert and drinks and then walk around the area on a nice day.

i know! i actually should've done more research on bambara bc it wasn't a deal at all. at least tangierino was a deal as far as what they charge for the food normally

its always smallish portions there btw

Hm...that's odd. I've only been there twice, but I've been v. satisfied with the portions both times.

See, this is why I try to avoid restaurant week. Matt and I like to try new places, but I don't want to feel forced to order more courses than I usually would...

But yeah, the Tangierino desserts are fucking outstanding.
I'm glad you liked it...but pissed that you feel a little ripped off...sounds like you saved some money, but got way smaller portions than usual...

Yah. I really like the place though! It didn't occur to me that portions would be smaller during RW, but that makes a lot of sense now.

Can we get together soon, woman?!

I'm free after 6:45 next Thursday...

I just looked up the lyrics for that song and they are awful, which I guess comes as no surprise.

Here's a little taste:
I remember the things that we used to do, a kiss in the rain

Til the sun shined through, Id try to deny it, but Im still in love with you

I miss you like crazy, I miss you like crazy, ever since you went away

Every hour of every day, I miss you like crazy, I miss you like crazy

No matter what I say or do, theres just no getting over you

I was going to mention this when you were asking about restaurants but got distracted. There are a very few restaurants (Federalist, Excelsior, Rialto, etc) where $33.07 is a bargain for them. At most, the dinner adds up to the same if you ordered the food individually or less if you order what you'd really order(like sharing a dessert vs own desserts). And, you have a set menu of less expensive ingredients at many of them vs ordering off the real menu (Upstairs on the Square doe this). And there are surcharges for the really interesting dishes. And the alcohol is extra (obv).

But, glad to hear Tangerino was yummy. I've been meaning to go there.
