I walk from the Magic Box with my little carton containing the Orb tucked under my arm. It was interesting to interact with the Slayer's posse, and I'm glad I got at least half of the magic items I need. I doubt that they will contact me with concerns to the Codex, I sense the Watcher didn't want to give it to me ( Read more... )

Oh great.

I stood up, a rain of dice clattering to the floor around my feet.

"Tucker, what are you doing here?" I turned to Andrew, "Did you tell him where our hide-out was? How can we have a secret lair, if it isn't secret?"

I shook my head. I wasn't even sure I wanted to be here, and now more people know where we are, and what is going on?

Great, I'm going to jail...do you know what they do to guys like me in jail?

I watch our D&D game collapsing at Jonathan's feet, and at first am totally miffed. I think he just threw the dice everywhere cause he was upset my dwarf was totally overtaking his paladin.

But then I look up.

It was like what Han Solo must've felt as that door opened in Cloud City to see Darth Vader on the otherside. A chill, but also excitement.

Tucker.

He was home.

I turn to Jonathan. "Of course I told him, he's my brother...he taught me all of this! We couldn't not give him the heads up!"

I turn back to Tucker, "Tuck! Hey!"

I muttered, "It's as though you don't get what secret hideaway meant. And if you didn't notice, he broke the door in, he didn't know Doofus."

I'll admit it. I never forgave Tucker for almost ruining my prom. I mean, I had a date and everything. What if she'd gotten eaten? Or I had.

No, I didn't like Tucker at all. One more person in a growing list of people I can not trust.

I started picking up my dice, and waited. I did wonder what disco-meanie wanted, but I wasn't going to ask!

"Chill out Jonathan, no need to worry."

I watch as he struggles to pick up the dice. Time to show them what I've learned.

"Here, let me help you with that."

I raise my hand up in the air, and all the dice shoot up off the ground as if they were pulled their by invisible strings. They now hung in the air. I make a circular motion with my finger and the dice zoom around Jonathan's head in an awkward halo, before settling into his palm with the dice he had already gathered.

I knew Jonathan didn't care for me. Not like it was a secret, he wasn't the best for hiding his feelings. He wore his expressions openly, but it was totally worth using magic just to freak him out a bit.

"So," I say, lowering my hand and plopping down into a chair nearby, "nice little digs you got here, not quite what I'd call an evil lair, but I guess it'll do."
