What does your Live Journal name mean?
my favourite album of all time is weezer's pinkerton, and my name is dot. so i combined the two in a clever jab at the delivery service called "pinkdot," which is now known as "pd quick" anyway.
If could have any superhero power, what would it be? Or what superhero would you be?:
i would like the power to leap tall buildings in a single bound because, well, if you think about it, it's a whole lot like flying especially if you can get some good distance. i think that it looks cooler also to bound across long distances in maybe two or three leaps instead of just flying overhead, because then people will have the treat of seeing you land in a very stylistic and perhaps earth-moving way before you up and jump again.
Top 5’s:
THINGS THAT ARE LAME:
one ) hate crimes -- okay, if i have to explain this one, i'm adding you as #6 on my list of things that are lame.
two ) scenesters/fashion victims -- there is something about someone who looks and acts like all of his/her friends, yet casts an evil eye at you because you're "so hopelessly mediocre." hey buddy, you're just like the mall goths and the sorority girls.
three ) cigarettes -- they kill, they stink, they cost a whole lot, and they don't even get you a good high.
four ) hypocrisy (especially our own) -- hypocrisy, while more annoying than harmful, is what makes people seem ignorant and intellectually invalid. what's more frustrating also is that everyone is a hypocrite at some point. right now i'm being a hypocrite because i love and respect the rules of grammar, but i myself prefer not to capitalize correctly in most of my online activities.
five ) my crappy job in an industrial warehouse -- it's dirty, it's strenuous, it's inconveniently scheduled, and it's only 25 cents above minimum wage.
THINGS THAT ARE COOL: (i left out the given -- oxygen, water, music -- because i figure they are the given)
one ) friendship -- pardon the sentimental episode i'm gonna have here, but i don't know where i'd be without my friends. they take good care of me; they listen, advise, discipline, entertain, feed, house, and support me. i can only hope i do the same for them.
two ) money -- i will not lie to you about my materialism. money = survival. and survival = life. and life = potential happiness.
three ) spontaneity -- life has its routines as our roots, so what are the branches and the brilliant little green leaves? the adventure! the spice of life!
four ) individuality -- people just need to stop doing what they do to please others. i don't mean they should make it a point to displease others by living outside the unspoken rules of consideration and politeness. i just mean that people should not be deterred from expressing their identities by some bourgeois standard of normalcy (this mostly addresses fashion, but can spill over into personal tastes and various belief systems).
five ) honesty -- no one really likes hearing bullshit, even if they'll dish it out like nobody's business.
MOVIES:
one ) fight club -- it's got a good balance of humour, action, drama, and mind-bender-juice. also, it was actually a decent adaptation of the book.
two ) eternal sunshine of the spotless mind -- i love anything written by charlie kaufman, really, but this one is the first movie that's ever made me cry.
three ) donnie darko -- there is a lot of original philosophy about time travel in this movie, and it was well-acted/well-directed to boot.
four ) rocky horror picture show -- i VERY recently rediscovered my love for this movie and all its very painful campiness.
five ) dead alive -- i chose to include this in the top five though it isn't my top five because i wanted to represent my fascination with really bad horror flicks somehow, and this one is tops (big shout-out to brucey and the evil dead trilogy, though)
RECORDS (not mp3 playlist): (these are albums i could play, or have played, clear through without skipping tracks, several times a day)
one ) weezer's pinkerton -- my flavorful namesake! this album rocks the latent emo bitch inside of me without being too sweet or too bitter.
two ) radiohead's ok computer -- oh my radiohead. it's all good, but this is the one that gets me right there (as i point to my stomach).
three ) postal service's give up -- yeah, yeah, i know, postal service is played out. but that doesn't mean it's not any good. this is some good ambient electronica with some very beautiful poetry floating on top.
four ) reel big fish's turn the radio off -- dorky third-wave ska kids represent.
five ) no knife's fire in the city of automatons -- no knife is a band i wholeheartedly recommend. these guys have tremendous talent in the way of orchestrating music with depth and complexity.
REASONS WHY YOU THINK YOU’RE COOL:
one ) i know what i'm all about, and i even know when to admit that i don't know.
two ) when i'm really in my element and i'm chatting up a storm, i sound like a cross between professor dorr (ladykillers) and jack kerouac.
three ) i can say things like "gee, if only i had a steely resolve in play, i could avoid being the target of your spells and abilities," and it'd sound charming.
four ) i can play "ziggy stardust" on guitar.
five ) because
i got it, you don't.
Other Stuff
WHAT'S THE MOST IMPORTANT THING YOU'VE EVER LEARNED?: my grandma told me not to "go than growing up goes." it sounds really stupid on paper, but it's really quite profound when explored conceptually. she basically said not to rush oneself into growing up, but she's my grandma so she can't say it normally. we have that in common.
WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE FOOD OR FAVORITE TYPE OF FOOD?: japanese food, hands down. i'm a sushi connoisseur.
WHO DO YOU THINK IS A GOOD ROLE MODEL WITHIN THE WORLD OF HOLLYWOOD? MALE AND FEMALE?: worst question ever! um, how about janeane garofalo and edward norton? you didn't ask me to justify. so i won't. but you can ask if you like.
