err, i already make all my scant entries friends-only or private :/
And I've tried being like, "Well, I'll just make it private," but somehow just the *idea* of a certain audience (even screened off) changes things, if that makes sense?
You mean, you want an audience or that the idea of a potential audience turns you off? I don't know much about other LJ-like online contraptions, but I think most of them would work the same way, that you can keep entries private or show them.
I suppose you could try one of those, or even make a new unknown LJ identity and keep all entries private from the get-go. Hell, that's probably safer privacy-wise than keeping a paper journal.
The idea of a potential audience makes me feel less free to just get my thoughts out, because I'm thinking about who's going to be reading it, even if I trust people. Dunno if that makes sense. Knowing that people's interpretation of me might be affected by what I say. And just... I don't know, everything attached with this journal. It's been 5 or 6 years of this name, this (evolving) set of friends and communities, etc. Every time I post I feel connected to all the other posts in a way that's sort of... not freeing.
I don't know if any of that makes sense. :P I will definitely keep in touch with people though, I do still check my friends list all the time even though I don't post :P I might just need a new identity/site free from "clutter" so to speak.

I am using LJ very much like a diary anyway. But I do have my own physical diary where I pen my thoughts.
*hugs*
