This was a rather impromptu trip. Never crossed my mind that I will go China for a vacation but neither did I dismiss this possibility. All along we've been talking about going Taiwan..
My usual travel mate aka colleague, Joyce, had to go Beijing for an event. And so, me and another ex-colleague Sandra, decided to fly over to Shanghai and meet her, and she will extend the trip and fly to Shanghai to meet us. Not a very 'smooth' trip for us. You will realise why later on.
We took off to Shanghai via Singapore Airline 29 Oct. Yup my FIRST SQ experience. lol! A 5 hours flight.
Reached Shanghai Pudong Airport at around 3.30pm. Was anticipating if we will see fans screaming when we came out from Arrival Hall. haha.. The JRock Band XJapan was due to arrive at 3pm from Seoul, for their Shanghai concert. So guess what we saw? Some flowers, leaves, trampled over on the floor.. lol Seems like they are gone..
- Cab to Hotel Equatorial Shanghai (上海国际贵都大饭店).
- Explore the 'neighbourhood' + find out exactly where is the subway station (靜安寺站).
- 'Window shopping' at the Japan/Korea supermarket. Saw Korean Binggrae Banana Milk but more ex than SG.. S$2 per packet..
- Dinner for the 1st night was pathetic. We had.. cup noodles + takoyaki (Japanese Octopus Ball).
Jing'an Temple (靜安寺)
Day 2
After breakfast, we took the subway and started our journey! 1st in our agenda is shoes! Since i got a rather small feet (am a size 3, unfortunately), I found some shops in Shanghai, from the net, that sells small sized and big sized shoes. Bought 2 pairs of heels. And i would suggest for those who are going Shanghai and would like to buy shoes (guys, ladies, kids), can check out this shoes wholesale building.
上海鞋都
地址:上海市西藏南路1277号鞋都鞋城
地铁8号线 陆家浜路站 3号出口
- Subway to 陸家嘴, Super Brands Mall, to meet Sandra's younger brother who is in Shanghai for poly attachment.
- Initial plan was to go Hongqiao Airport and fetch Joyce from her domestic flight. But the flight was delayed and cancelled due to the fog, and can only fly to Shanghai the next morning..
Plans spoilt.. so he then brought us to this shopping area located at 上海科技馆 station, that will really test our bargaining skills. Underground shops that sells fake branded goods. Bought an Agnes B tote, from quoted price 150RMB bargained till 40RMB (~ S$8). *accomplished* lol
Went 南京西路 for dinner at Ajisen. My bowl of char siew ramen cost only S$4.
My loots
Day 3
Subway to Pudong Airport and fetch Joyce! Finally she reach Shanghai... And we took the Maglev train (上海磁浮) back, for the experience.
- Cab to Xintiandi (新天地) for lunch at 鼎泰丰。
- Subway to 七浦路, another wholesale place. Need to check the name of the nearest subway station.
- Dinner at 必胜客 aka Pizza Hut!
Didn't really like 七浦路, quite messy, IMO.
Our last night in Shanghai..
Day 4
The day we go to Hangzhou.
- Cab to Shanghai Railway to take the High Speed Rail to Hangzhou. Train ride around 50mins.
- Stayed in SSAW Hotel Plaza (世贸·君亨都市酒 广场店)
There is 85度c (from Taiwan), 永和大王 (Taiwan too!) just beside the hotel!
- Lunch at 外婆家, within walking distance from the hotel.
- Spent the time shopping at the malls near our hotel.
- Had a simple dinner at 咬不得, just beside our hotel. Not nice.. :\
Day 5
Supposed to go West Lake first thing in the morning after breakfast but it rained! zZzz
Plans spoil by wet weather.. So we cabbed to this other wholesale place 四季青. Got conned to the new 四季青 where almost 80% of the shops are closed or not rented out.
- Cab back to lunch at 外婆家 again. The waiter recognise us! Opps!
Walked back to the hotel lobby to google for some directions. Decided to go to the Silk Market. Got conned again by the cab driver and he brought us to this high class store that sells silk. (coz he say the Silk Market is all fake stuff) Waste our time.. We walk 1 round and cab to the actual Silk Market. But by the time we reach there, the shops were closing!!! Yes, they close at 5pm. Grrr..
We managed to go to West Lake, in the darkness (it was only 6pm+) and in the rain. Can't see anything though, but there are alot of China tourists. There's a musical fountain that ONLY emits green light.
Our last night in Hangzhou. Dinner at this hotpot restaurant, 川味观.
Day 6
Presenting our breakfast at 永和大王。豆浆油条!Yummy!
豆浆油条 & 蘑菇鸡肉粥.
- Took HSR back to Shanghai, and we cabbed straight from Hongqiao Railway to Pudong airport as our flight was 4.20pm.
We settled our lunch at Pudong airport after checking in our luggage. And I love this!
'Family' of KFC... Had the egg tart and the 猪排面. NICE!
And Singapore.. I am back...
