There are times when i'm doing certain meditations; most often just sitting in front of my altar lighting candles and reflecting, when my upper body kind of starts a rocking motion, moving back and forth, without any conscious thought on my part.

Has anyone else experienced this or have any thoughts on it or what causes this?

The term for that sort of motion in the Jewish community is shuckling, and I'm pretty sure something similar occurs in other religions. I have no idea if what you're doing is related (conceptually or spiritually), but there's a place you can begin exploring it.

I rock back and forth myself but that is more of an autistic behavior than a spiritual one.

Wish I could remember where I'd read it, but while practicing asana for hermetic magic purpose, one of the common things that people are supposed to experience initially is the feeling of bodily rocking or tilting to one side.

I do it all the time.
It's a kinetic response to where my mind is.
It's a recognized phenomenon.

Yes. It's self-soothing. I think it's pretty much automatic if you're trying to relax and calm yourself in a concentrated fashion, especially if you were stressed to begin with.

This. Like an above poster I do it pretty often because I'm autistic, but it's not specific to autistics. It's just a self-soothing behaviour, it's comfortable and pleasant. It can happen by itself if your mind wanders when you're trying to relax like that.
