Fictional questions.

I know this is off topic and I apologize if it offends, but I trust this community to give me thoughtful answers. I'm writing a fan fic and I need the villain to be able to hide his actions from clairvoyants. He only has a trace of innate talent, but great deal of will and patience to learn thaumaturgy. I never really worry about hiding what I'm ( Read more... )

It's important that they pick their shoes carefully. Squeaky soles would be a dead give-away.

One option might be misdirection. Have an accomplice go 'LOOK, A RAPTOR!' and while everyone's distracted the villain can STRIKE. If the clairvoyant character is a geeky sort, nerd sniping might work as a distraction.

Occult nerd sniping. Put together an incredibly complex ritual that doesn't quite make sense. While the clairvoyant is shouting "BUT WHAT THE HELL IS THE EYE OF NEWT FOR!?!", you shoot him or her in the head.

I was thinking more along the lines of "hide in a bush, pick it up and tip toe until you're behind the target and then pounce." Hey, it worked for the natives in Peter Pan and it's worked for cartoon characters for decades. It must be fool proof.

Yeah. I tried doing my own homework and all I was coming up with was Dion Fortune's Psychic Self-Defense. I remember not liking it when I picked it up twenty years ago. But if that's the best there is I'll go dig up a copy.

Really, just make something up that fits with the rest of the story. Real-life clairvoyants aren't as spiffy as all that. It's not spidey-sense after all. If I wanted to sneak up on someone who had clairvoyant talents, I'd do it just like I'd sneak up on anyone else.

If their skills are all that, they'll foresee me doing whatever it is I'm doing to hide. Honestly, the more mojo I call to hide behind, the more likely I am to get noticed, in some way.
