But why a sane and non-biased person can truly answer?:

Why Lost started as a thriller (and made its fanbase on it) and tottally changed to soap-opera drama?

I can't see Lost getting any audience without the mysteries.
The only thing that keep some people watching the show til the end was to expect some miracle to happen to the plot.
By the way this has been the main trick of many of JJ Abrams productions, he always create a world of genius possibilities and takes none.
Its obviously and clear that the creators lost themselves on the mid of the series.
