It's a form of torture that my lovely government has used in the past (not sure about the present -- but it's not supposed to be happening) to get info out of alleged terrorists: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waterboarding

Hmm... according to that surfing is known as "water boarding" - maybe they just missed the space? We can hope anyway.

I really really hope that she was meaning "water boarding" as the sport. However, the only places I can find these types of statements sold are conservative/pro-torture of terrorists sites. Examples are here(be sure to look at the "key words" these stickers are found under ( ... )

It's just... not right. And while I don't align myself with conservatives anymore (i'm definitely lower-case libertarian in my thinking) I am surrounded by them in my day-to-day life. To believe in Christ and His love and sacrifice for us and then to say that torture is okay (or even to be celebrated) is disgraceful.

Thank you for taking the time to write. I appreciate it, btw.

*big grin* I actually thought later on in the day that you would appreciate it. I was so worked up about this yesterday... I just *had* to post something. ;)

I loves you, girlie. I'm not caught up on your lj... but I'll be checking in ... right. now.

My first thought would be that it was somebody who just didn't know what waterboarding was, and thought it meant surfboarding or something similar.

I'm almost certain that's not the case... unfortunately. The person had almost all (if not all) politically motivated bumper stickers. And the only places I can find this style of bumper sticker online have to do with the act of "waterboarding" as a means of getting info from supposed terrorists. A couple examples are here ( ... )

Ah, good point! For some strange reason I hadn't thought about the person who printed it at all :(

It makes me sad that people are truly making light and advocating for something that is essentially drowning a person. I'm not sure how that can't be considered torture... and why people would be okay with encouraging such behavior. We hung Japanese soldiers for doing it to our soldiers back in WWII.... after all.
