Sitting on the platform of station, waiting for a train...any train, I was pondering why Sheffield station has steel beams made in Lanarkshire?

no beam mills in sheffield.
Okay so there probably were.
But depends on who was building the place and where they were located.
My first job was with a company who's main business was steel mill automation. Hot and cold strip mills mostly. Dalzell which was a steel mill in motherwell in lanarkshire was one but can't remember what that did though i think they did do beam mills.
All very boring.

Not boring at all thank you for telling me! I was beginning to suspect a giant joke or hallucination brought on by a lack of trains home.

chances are motherwell station has beams made elsewhere too and Ravenscraig the largest steel mill in the uk that never ran at full capacity was in lanarkshire
