[Summary] OreOre by Hoshino Tomoyuki (2010)

p 59 (cont.) - 64

Their talk lasted for about three hours. On the train Nagano feels lost and he now has contact info for “Nagano Hitoshi” on his own phone.

His phone rings. He expects it to be “Nagano” but it’s Daiki’s mother. she wants to know how he feels. He is sullen but says he will feel better if he could just sleep.

The mother wants to visit him and cook for him tomorrow. He says he is not a kid anymore. He tells her not to bother him and that he will call her tomorrow evening. He hangs up. As he is still hungry he gets a bento from a supermarket on his way home.

At home he is stricken by sadness. right now *he* will enjoy his/*his* mother’s cooking while he has only something from a convenience store.

He thinks that recently he didn’t even receive any mails from his mother. He thought it was because he rarely replied, but in not sure now. Two years ago she was always telling him to get married and to get kits. She though that if he had his own he would also understand his father better. She was always nagging him so he stopped answering her calls and to ignore her mails.

He doesn’t even know how he feels about marriage. He never got the chance, but he doesn’t want to have a marriage like his parents’. He doesn’t mind kids but doesn’t want to live together with someone. Having someone around he would have to be constantly conscious about how he acts. He could not just let go. He would feel trapped. He also feels sympathy for *him*. *He* now must play the good son.

It’s not like Nagano didn’t have any girlfriends. During his photography school time he and a girl were deeply in love. She was amazing. Even before graduating she won an award and started to work for a photographer. At that time when he couldn’t find a job, he also had a car accident. Mamiko [1] who sat on the passenger seat broke her arm and that hindered her work. In the end they broke up.

He is fed up. Daiki’s mother is going on and on about him getting married. She doesn’t understand that he doesn’t want such a life.

So *Hitoshi* telling him he should take care of Daiki’s mother makes him angry. *He* should put *himself in his shoes. He is angry and tired. It had been an long day with too many “hims”. He doesn’t understand anything anymore.

[1] Mamiko: The name Mamiko is written in kanji here but was written in hiragana in an earlier part. I am not sure if it’s the same Mamiko or *another*, or if the Daiki’s and Nagano’s past start to blend together.

p 64 (cont.) - 68

When Nagano wakes up in the morning Daiki’s mother is in his apartment making him breakfast. She says she was worried about his health so she came over.

He is not happy about that intrusion but he has to admit he food is delicious. She says she doesn’t want him to end up like his father who worked all the time not taking care of his health until it was too late.

Then the mother reminds him about the class reunion. She wants him to go. Nagano looks at the card. There is no fee and people should bring their own food and drinks. The event is not only for his own class but for all classes, so he might meet people form the photography club too.

The event is on a Sunday when he works but he might take some time off. So he fills out the reply card stating he will attend. He gives his own address and as name Hiyama Daiki.

The mother is very pleased.

Nagano gets ready for work. He tells her that when he returns from work he wants to go to sleep immediately. He also tells her not to tidy up or clean.

She says she understands but Nagano is sure she will ignore his wishes.
