Wow. Atta girl. I myself am almost ready, after almost 2 years of the class I take, to go upstairs and face the weight room. Good thing life is long, right?
I recently had to remember just how hard the transition from cardio and nautilus machines to the free weight area of the gym was. It is mondo-mega intimidating to step up to those racks of dumbbells or take up space on a bench amidst all those really muscly men who seem like they own that side of the gym. It did take me more that a couple years to screw up the gumption. And even then I wouldn't have stuck with it without my complement of men guiding me through the initial steps. It doesn't phase me now and I'm really happy I made the transition but it was hard.
Whoa those things sound hard. The duration stuff kicks my ass and makes me cry on a regular basis too. So... you're not alone? Probably cold comfort at this point, forgive me.
I just think it's amazing that you stick it out. You are constant inspiration to me. All the more so because you dare to do things that might make you cry, and you keep negotiating for your own fitness, and you keep DOING IT.
I left the gym feeling good. I'm not down on myself at all about my experience but I did feel the need to write it down.
Once upon a time a was having a conversation with a friend about how they were starting to diet and exercise and what a struggle it was. She made a comment about how Mario and I wouldn't know anything about the struggle because it was so easy for us and I realized it might look that way from the outside if I never talk about the hard stuff too.
And sometimes I just want to eat pizza, drink beer, and look as good as Halle Berry.

(I love that "it's easy for you" thing. It illuminates so many assumptions.)
