Interestingly, some factors that helped Obama really hurt same-sex marriage; exit polls showed that 7 out of 10 black voters supported Prop 8.
Also my county sucks! We re-elected our annoying Congressman, too.

So, I was - amazed and overjoyed and so proud of the US for electing him. And disappointed but not surprised that California voters don't think that I deserve, you know, equal human rights, because they've been polling that way for months.
I'm really unwilling to blame Prop 8 passing on any racial group. Only 8.6% of Californians are African-American, according to the 2006 census, and that's total population, not registered voters. Caucasians make up 43.1% of the state population, still more than any other racial group. We lost it by age. 66% of voters aged 18-25 voted against Prop 8, and 60% of ( ... )

I don't think it's an issue of blame, but it was interesting to note. It's interesting about the ages, too, although unsurprising, and the inland thing-- huh. Do smart people seek water?

People have already started to fight back; I've seen pushes for a re-vote, which is going to be hard unless there are really that many people who feel strongly about the issue who neglected to vote last time that are going to change the outcome for a second go-round. Though maybe it would change, just because people would only show up if they cared hard enough, and not just put a vote down because they're in the booth anyways for the national election. It was a pretty narrow margin that we lost by...
As far as I'm concerned, it is wrong that this was ever on a ballot. Human rights - minority rights especially - are not something that should require popular approval. The U.S. Constitution has certain tenets in place against the 'abridging of liberties' and stuff, but I'm sure you know more about that than me ( ... )
