NBC's Kings, Premise (No spoilers for future episodes)

It's really kind of weird to watch promotional clips and interviews for Kings because it seems like everyone is trying very, very hard to keep from saying that the show is a modern retelling of the Biblical story of David and Jonathan. Like, to the extent that I have seen a lot of blog entries where people are saying 'What, hey! I had no idea Kings ( Read more... )

Wow. Thank you for this, Mari, this just absolutely made my day. I watched the pilot on Hulu and, oh, wow. I love bible stories very much. Butterflies!

<33 I'm so glad! Thank you for this comment. This is one of those shows I'm positive a lot of people I know would love but probably never hear about in an appealing way. Like, the NBC promos - I had no idea it was a biblical story from that, it was just butterflies everywhere and MONARCHY and 'I'll give you half my kingdom'! Which, I mean, was enough to make me curious but not enthusiastic.

For me it could have gone either way until the Samuels scene. That struck me so hard for whatever reason, I was just rapt during that. (It helps that I love the actor playing Samuels.) That forehead touch! The dialogue which looks a little flat written out, but - 'I've been carrying this thing for months, it is broken, if you can fix it it's yours.' And it's a representation of the kingdom, of the king's favor. If you can fix the kingdom, it's yours.

Apparently the promos are absolutely not doing the show justice? I haven't seen them, but they sound dull.

Just. The butterflies. I don't want to spoiler all over your comments, but I'm refering to, you know, the scene. That scene there.

Divine mandate! I love me some divine mandate.
