i think pop song writers should write political slogans or at least new -isms that beg to be reduced to memorable one-liners. i haven't listened to "bye bye bye" by n sync for ages, but when i listened to it tonight i could mouth all the words. i hadn't realized i even knew them in 2000.

You do know that political speech makers scour pop songs for their material, right? Yes, it's the oldest trick in the book. They also watch movies, just for the sake of evoking the same response. Speeches are like commercials for politicians. There is a fair amount of clever branding going on, and they use all the tools that businesses do to sell their products.

your probably didn't know them in 2000, but your memory is better than you think, and they have played that song insidiously in the background for years.

You have to guard your mind's real estate mercilessly, otherwise they will always find a way to trespass and take an acre or two.
