I watched How to solve a Cryptic Crossword earlier - a combination of hints and tips, and the history of the puzzle - in the hope that I might maybe be able to do some. Then I printed off the one from today's Guardian, and got precisely zero clues. The quick crossword has proved a little more fruitful for now.

The guardian does a really pretentious crossword. Have a go on The London Paper's cryptic crossword instead, it's designed for your "just out of work brain" and considerably more doable.

Don't be too worried if you only get a few at first: If you keep working at it you will improve.

My mum used to sometimes be able to solve the Guardian cryptic crossword on the train between Thornton Heath and Victoria.

I have never been able to solve one cryptic clue. I think my brain is wired in a different way.
