LJI friends and rivals: topic 4

I think if it didn't have eggs, I'd be willing to try it. Surprisingly to myself, I've never had frog eye salad before. I have had ambrosia salad, although we just called it '5-cup salad' back in the 90s. I had no idea that it was THE ambrosia salad people salivate for.

are you allergic to eggs? because otherwise I swear you can't taste them - I think it just serves as a binder.

I do have a slight allergy actually, but I like eggs. Since my gallbladder came out last year though, eggs and dishes containing them go straight through me.

My ex used to make the best Frog's Eye Salad. I loved that stuff.

I know that UPS does, but the packing of perishables is so darn complicated (not to mention usually pricey). ;o

Heh. Perhaps one day I'll try it. I'm always willing to try anything once, and this sounds interesting indeed. Will have to check if we have acini di pepe pasta here. Tks!

so I looked at your profile and if you're currently around CA, they should carry it in most larger groceries - it's tiny little balls and also used in Italian wedding soup. it's usually with the other pastas, and someone at the store should be happy to help you find it if you ask. :D

Ah, right. My profile. Um. I had a slight case of stalker-itis a couple years ago, so the information is a tad, eh... false.

I'm actually from further South. Like below the equatorial line, south.

:D

Tks for the pic. I think I've seen that stuff here; if it's the same, we call it 'ammunition' pasta.

hey, that's what I get for assuming. ;) and I hope your stalker issues are forever behind you!

ammunition pasta is a good name - it does kind of resemble BB pellets.

I would love to try this, complete with marshmallows. I don't care what it tastes like (it sounds great!), I want to try it for the name alone. Is this a regional dish from somewhere?

yeah, I'd guess it may have its roots here in the "land of Zion" which encompasses the western foothills of the Rockies in Utah and Idaho, or at least I'm pretty sure they came up with the name. :)

So many food posts on my friends page lately, must you torture me as well? ;)

The photo makes it look divine, as do most of the ingredients. I dislike canned fruit, though. Maybe I will substitute with fresh if I make this.
