... Aaand today Dad got a letter from his other aunt, who I also did not know existed until yesterday when I listened to him chatting on the phone to the first aunt. No connection, either, apparently, they just both decide, within a few days of each other, to get in touch for the first time in a decade

Wow. Try being in an asian family.....then all of a sudden you'll have relatives so distant you don't even know how they could possibly be related to you, and no matter where you travel anywhere in the world there'll always be another cousin to visit. *wince*
