Two memes...

1. What did you do in 2008 that you'd never done before? Lots! Finished school, got a boyfriend, got a driver's licence (as of my birthday in three days' time), quit a job (as of yesterday!), made serious plans to move out, traveled independently...

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
No resolutions, but I did post a list of things I was planning to do in 2008...
  • go back to Jakarta - done
  • finish Year 12 (and do well) - finished Year 12, did okay
  • get into uni - we don't find out until January exactly what we got into; I think I should get my first choice
  • decide what I'm going to do with myself the year after I finish school (gap year/work/uni/etc.) - decided
  • finish my apprenticeship (and thus get my Cert III) and decide where to go from there (stay on as a non-apprentice/get a diploma/find another childcare job/leave/take a break and come back after uni) - still haven't finished the apprenticeship and I've quit the job I was doing it with, but I'm going to continue it with another employer next year
  • get my P's - passed the test; need to wait for my birthday now
  • go up to Brisbane for Candi's 18th - I'd completely forgotten that I was planning this! In the end it didn't happen because a lot of people couldn't afford it; she came down here instead.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth? No.

4. Did anyone close to you die? No.

5. What countries did you visit? Indonesia... and Singapore airport.

6. What would you like to have in 2009 that you lacked in 2008? A full-time job, mainly.

7. What dates from 2008 will remain etched upon your memory, and why? I'm not good with dates.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year? Finishing school.

9. What was your biggest failure? Not doing as well at school as I should have, I suppose.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury? Nothing serious. Lots of bugs from the childcare job + being run-down from school stress.

11. What was the best thing you bought? Hmm... tickets to Darwin?

12. Whose behavior merited celebration? *shrug* My parents'?

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed? I don't think I was too grievously wronged by anyone this year. I suppose work might fall under this category, to an extent...

14. Where did most of your money go? Towards my tickets to Darwin, I suppose. And it's been slipping through my fingers awfully fast in the last couple of weeks because a) James and I keep going out for meals and such, and b) Dad has been on a you're-old-enough-to-pay-for-this-yourself-now kick.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about? Moving out! Going to Darwin! Boyfriend!

16. What song will always remind you of 2008? I don't know about always, but I'm going to go with High School Never Ends by Bowling for Soup and Little Bit by Lykke Li.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
a) happier or sadder? Not sure. I have lots of giddy-happy days and lots of everything-sucks days, but on average, probably about the same. I think I've actually mellowed out a bit, though; the lows aren't so low and the highs aren't so high.
b) thinner or fatter? Fatter, I think.
c) richer or poorer? Poorer, especially right now.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of? Schoolwork. Also, work-work, and enjoying the company of my friends. And reading!

19. What do you wish you'd done less of? Worrying and procrastinating.

20. How will you be spending Christmas? At home with my family and the Gardiners - same as last year, I think.

22. Did you fall in love in 2008? Just a little bit. :)

23. How many one-night stands? None.

24. What was your favorite TV program? I don't really watch TV on TV. On DVD I watched... let's see... Scrubs, Heroes, Firefly, Battlestar Galactica, Six Feet Under...

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year? I don't hate people.

26. What was the best book you read? Probably The Raw Shark Texts by Steven Hall, or Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy.

27. What was your greatest musical discovery? My favourite at the moment is The Bird and the Bee.

28. What did you want and get? See question 2. :)

29. What did you want and not get? Ditto.

30. What was your favorite film of this year? Toss-up between Juno and Mamma Mia!.

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you? I haven't had it yet! But I'm going to be seventeen, and I'm not planning on doing much; my boyfriend and best friend are both out of town, and I'm kind of exhausted.

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying? I'm not sure! Getting a full-time job would have been a nice way to end it...

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2008? My personal fashion concept? T-shirts (mostly Threadless; I like them because I don't have to go shopping for them) and jeans.

34. What kept you sane? Friends, family, books, cooking.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most? No one comes to mind.

36. What political issue stirred you the most? The US election (just to be different!).

37. Who did you miss? Darwin people. Candi.

38. Who was the best new person you met? James. :)

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2008. "Don't worry so much." (Profound, no?)

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year. ... Eh.

The rules are that for 8 days you have to post something that made you happy that day. Tag 8 people to do the same.

(I don't promise to do this for eight days, but I will make eight posts over the next... while.)

Today (day one)... waking up next to James. (D'awww.)

Tag yourselves; I'm going to bed.
