i actually can't remember, i think it was something to do with copyright on the book or something,...

hang on, maybe it was to do with... when people publish books they can also create a contract for film makers rights, which means that for a film to be made they have to agree to a contract or something... maybe Pullman did one of these, saying the film couldn't be called by the name of the book. You know just incase the film flops... saves embarrasement
