Yuletide letter 2009

Hello, fellow Yuletide writer!

Thank you for being here.

As far as fanfiction goes, the stories I read are roughly 80% slash, 15% gen and 5% het.  But! I will love anything you write.  This is my first Yuletide, so I’ll be concentrating hard on my own writing assignment.  Your story will be like a glass of water after a long walk through a desert.  That in mind, all the details I offered are optional, and no matter which fandom you choose, I will be over the moon.

Borrowing from liviapenn’s 2008 Yuletide letter, here are some things I like: happy endings, alternative endings, banter, intelligence, surprises, huddling for warmth, saving lives, silent understandings, quiet character moments, epic adventures, last minute saves, ending with a bang or a whimper, and hope.

Here are some things I don't particularly like: everyone-is-gay, we're not gay we just love each other, female-character-bashing, or hard-core torture.

There are lots of things I like, and few things I dislike, so don’t hold back.  Again, all of the previous suggestions are meant to be helpful, and in no way binding.  I hope your story will come easily to you, but if you do have to default, please don’t feel guilty.  This isn’t for world peace, it’s for fun.

The following details are almost identical to my official request:

Max Brooks - World War Z

Characters: Any

Anything from this universe would be a delight, gen preferred.  Some ideas/suggestions, not meant to be requirements: future-fic: opening the North Korean bunker - narrator/chronicler there or not; origins of the virus - supernatural or entirely natural?; more from the point of view of the astronauts, maybe from an OC [original character] woman, Russian or American; anything from the beginning, middle, or after the war is welcomed, OC or an addition to the testimonial from any person in the book.  I liked the way the book personalized a world-wide event by using first person narratives, but you can use any POV you want.  You can focus on any aspect of the War you want to, broad or narrow.

The Mentalist

Characters: Kimball Cho/Patrick Jane

Either character or both, slash or gen. Cho seems to have a knowledge-base equal or greater than Jane's, without his ability to read people; something from a case that shows them using their strengths to work together would be cool.  Alternately, a character piece with either or both, slash or gen would be good.  For example, I really liked that moment in Season 1 Ep.17: Carnelian Inc. when Cho bursts Jane's bubble about the fossil/goat turd without being cruel.  Other characters are fine as long as there isn't too much focus on them.  Winter holiday-themed fics are welcomed.  The story can be set in season one or two.  (additional)  I like Cho being a deadpan smartass, but you can emphasize any aspect of his personality you want. I like Jane's complicated mix of ruthlessness and crime-fighting; again, you can paint a broad picture or have a narrow focus.

Sunshine (2007)

Characters: Any

One movie: this is an easy fandom to catch up on.  Gen, slash (Mace/Capa, Capa/Mace), or het (any).  Details: Anything from the movie, downbeat or uplifting: character moment before or during the trip, something about people back on earth, original characters or not, alternative ending, sad or happy, random tech speculation.  Anything you can think of.  Would prefer something that doesn’t focus on Pinbacker.  Favorite characters were Capa, Mace, and Corazon.

Phone Booth

Characters: Stu Shepard

Slash (Caller/Stu), gen, or gen-ish het (Kelly/Stu) preferred.  You can do anything you like with this character, but I’d be most interested in what happens after the movie.  Does he stay with Kelly; do they separate?  Does he become a good person (was he ever one?) or does he back slide?  Does The Caller look him up again for any reason?

Again, please write anything you would like to.  Everything besides the fandoms and characters is optional.  Good luck!
