I think that Spain was like that when he was younger. The strip took place when Spain was under Hapsburg rule (an exact time can't be made, but I assume it was either when Spain was starting his global empire or at the height of his empire). I imagine Spain has grown from his days like that. Spain honestly does care for Romano, so while he doesn't really assess the situation, he doesn't want to hurt Romano or anything.

I'll be sure to ask you if I need any help with history and culture! And I have been working on not doing that. When I first started researching Spanish culture, I was surprised too at how different it was from Mexican culture, but I did like reading about what was similar.

...also I'm sorry if this doesn't really make sense, I've been kinda brain dead recently.

Yo! I'm reading this book right now, and as I'm reading it, I find that it could be pretty helpful to Hetalia!Spain RPers. So I thought I'd recommend it to you. Ghosts of Spain: Travels Through Spain and Its Silent Past

The book covers, as far as I can tell, 20th century Spanish history, including such events as the Civil War (1936-39), Franco disctatorship (1939-1975), Transition to Democracy Period (. . . no one can agree how long this lasted) and contemporary Spain. It's written by a British journalist for English speakers, so nothing is simply assumed to be known by the readership already.

Though it deals with really upsetting historical events, a point is made that Spaniards are otherwise cheerful, optimistic people--a description which fits Hetalia!Spain well. If you can spare the money, or can get someone to give it to you as a present, I think it'll help tons with your research.

I think I can spare the money on that! Thanks so much for pointing that out to me, it'll be great to have a hard copy of a Spanish history book.
