I'd been waiting for this movie to come out since I was 16 years old, so of course i went to the theatre to see it. I am a nerd, and I'm good at being a nerd, so I am proud. The opening montage thing was fucking awesome, I thought. But anyway... I agree with you on the audience being ready for a compromised hero figure. It seemed like some things got a little dumbed down, which was disappointing.
What bothered me most about the no squid ending was everyone was disintegrated. You don't get to see all that carnage which makes you struggle even harder with trying to accept Ozymandias' actions. He talks about how he's made himself see every face and feel every death but on after seeing all those fucking bloody, dead people it just makes him seem more arrogant and self-serving.
