I finished The Kite Runner today. I haven't read a book I liked so much in a long time. it's a storyteller's book, here's why: every single detail matters. everything comes back again, sometimes in ways you predict, sometimes in ways you don't. nothing was wasted. Speaking only for myself - it's *hard* being a white girl from the burbs. I feel like I grew up in a spiritually unsatisfying culture, and sometimes when there's that kind of vacuum things rush in extra-hard to fill it ( ... )

after I posted this I thought myself into circles and couldn't really figure it out anymore. you're right, the real is always going to be some kind of fraud. and I can't deny anybody the right to a good story ( ... )
