Teeth for two

Feb 01, 2011 14:27

Went to the dentists' this morning, need to have two fillings and a cap plus two taken out, not so bad after twenty years of disgraceful, horrific, appalling, neglect, there's not much left of the two that have to go anyway. Far less nervous than I thought I would be, think I might finally have this anxiety demon under control - though I've thought ( Read more... )

Feel quite proud of myself for finally doing it after twenty years of avoidance, the real action starts next week I suppose but the actual drilling and scraping has never bothered me too much. Going to cost almost £200 but with any luck that'll be the most painful part of the process.

What's up with your gnashers then? Some of the worst pain you can get, I think, when they're really playing up.

Blimey, sounds like an expensive nightmare. I often think the dental service is a pretty good hint as to what a bad idea a privatised NHS would be.

Have you considered suing the original dentist? I know it sometimes feels a bit like kicking a cripple to sue the NHS but it seems like he's been responsible for a lot pain, stress, and expense on your part. I think you'd be entirely justified to do it.

I had a bad wisdom tooth years ago which was filled and then developed an abscess underneath it, still remember that mix of pressure and constant, nagging, pain it gave me. Jumped at the chance to have it removed when it was suggested.

Rochester has the most boring high street in the Medway towns

I spent some time in Rochdale yesterday. There are one or two proper shops in the 2 malls (tiniest malls anywhere), but apart from that the main street is charity shops and cash converters (scary number of them), fast food and banks, and pound shops. I guess everybody uses the big Asda and Tesco for most of their 'real' shopping. Even the 'good' shops are sort-of discount: Wilkos, TJMaxx, Argos.
It was a bit scary, tbh.

Yeah, I noticed a pound shop too. Seemed a bit odd alongside the more upmarket antique shops and the art gallery but Medway's like that. They let peasant scum like me live here after all.

Dav is all charity shops, greetings cards, mobile phones, estate agents and hairdressers. We have no greengrocer and only one butcher now.

We do have a very good independent hardware store, an independent pet food store, an independent furniture store and an independent motor spares place. So recently a new precinct opened with a Halfords, a Pets at Home, a couple of chain bed and carpet places and a Homebase. I try to avoid them on principle.

I can see the logic of small shops only being able to compete on services that supermarkets don't offer so you get this odd selection of shops.

Medway is pretty much a city that still exists as 4 joined towns so there's plenty of supermarket competition driving out the independents. Looking on Google street view I noticed Rochester does actually have a grocer's, there were two in fact but one has closed down, which tells its own tale.
