Where's Brenda Fricker?

Mum had to spend the night in casualty last night, her atrial fibrillation has been getting more severe lately and the 'quick appointment' we were promised the last time we were there turned out to be in November, which is a strange definition of quick. Only way for her to get to see a specialist was to stay overnight until the cardiac team do ( Read more... )

Ta, I think she'll be just as pissed off at not getting a good night's sleep as anything but it'd be nice to find out what's going on and what can be done about it. Puts you on edge knowing each day could include a trip to the local A&E.

Ridiculous state of affairs, isn't it. I hope she's okay (and not too tired).

Ta. Sister phoned and said they're just waiting to see one last doc. and then they're coming home, to sleep most likely. Sounds like she got to see a consultant, if not a cardiac specialist, and she's got some different medication which is one thing she wanted.

I had a very minor procedure recently and was told that, rather than go to the specialist unit where I was treated, to go to A & E with any symptoms. Madness.

And when someone eventually did, she asked me: 'How did you get this number?' Nice.Exactly what happened with mum, the Choose and Book she arranged didn't apply at that particular hospital so then she had to ring different doctor's secretaries, visit our GP, face west and whistle 3 times, all to get a 'quick' appointment in November. Our local GP surgery has started a ridiculous new system with appointments too, you can't get one unless you ring on a particular day when you can have one for that day, except they don't stick to it so you just ring up as normal and ( ... )

Think first thing we need is a govt that understands what a remarkable, wonderful thing the NHS is, one that believes in it, one that won't bullshit us that we can have decent public services and not have to pay for them.

All the best to your Mum.

Ta, just getting a long blow-by-blow account of what a night in the A&E is like. Mumsy is not amused.
