Since last summer I got a little over half way to my "lose 30 kilos" goal, but then about a month and a bit ago, I just stalled. I'm still eating/exercising the same as I was before, but I've got down to 93kg and I'm not going any lower. I reckon that because I now weigh less, my exercise is counting less because there's less of me to move. I'll get there in the end. And I'm sure you will too, if you don't turn into an enormous bodybuilder first.
I've always prefered a present to the wrapping paper. People put time, effort and love into making the present the best they can and whilst it's nice to have good wrapping paper everyone looks past it. That said, I do hope you get to where you want to be!
I used this exercise routine for my arms twice a day in the run up to my wedding: http://www.weightlossresources.co.uk/exercise/body_toning/upper_body.htm (in addition to doing all the arm machines at the gym). I found it was pretty effective - I was really subconcious about having my arms and shoulders on display, but I felt ok on the day. Good luck!

The wrapping paper is what everyone sees straight away.
But I understand what you are saying.
