Don't worry; inept people are everywhere, in every town, in every workplace. It must have been National Be Stupid At Someone Else's Job Day. At my work, nearly 99% of the conversations were as follows:

"I'd like to make an appointment."

"I'm sorry, but we don't book appointments ahead of time. Call us the day you want to be seen, and we'll give you a list of times. Then you pick the one that works better for you, and we book you for the day."

"So...I can't get an appointment for tomorrow?"

"I'm sorry, but you have to call in."

"So...can I get an appointment for Friday?"
