Cover crops, winter garden

Just checking to see if everyone else has their cover crops planted yet! I sowed some yesterday, just before today's rain, and am hoping to get more in next week if it dries out a little. Wish I'd been more on the ball - my neighbor got his in just before the October rain, so it's already 3 inches high. But if I get seed in before Thanksgiving ( Read more... )

May I ask what crops you planted? I'm new to this and was trying to research if there was anything I could plant this time a year and didn't have much success finding info.

Favas and peas! Several different kinds of each, interplanted fairly densely. The idea is the favas grow up and the peas use them for support. Small-seeded favas, also called Bell beans, grow really well, are cold-hardy enough for this climate, and the young beans are very tasty - better than Edamame, IMO. Large-seeded favas, like Broad Windsor or Aguadulce, are less cold-hardy but higher yielding ( ... )
